Plant and politics nut. Occasional rants in among the wildflowers. Mid Wales.
In mine it's the fennel (I don't have the water figwort to compare popularity here though!)
The knapweed is #StillFlowering its socks off and #pollinators are loving it #WildflowerHour
Cinnabar moth caterpillars are such a sunny site! Middletown Hill today. And a Silver Washed Fritillary fluttered by too 💚🐛 #TeamMoth #Butterflies Also Small copper, Red admiral, Small skipper, Large white, Scarlet tiger, Peacock, Meadow brown, Green-veined white, Gatekeeper.
Welshpool date changed to fit in with parliament. Steve Witherden MP, and a number of county and town councillors attending.
Stretching the idea of lawn for #WildflowerHour. Meadow creation underway here for the past 4 years. Used to have a lawn, lost that a couple of years ago when No Mow May turned into plain old no mow 😂
Morning from Montgomeryshire 😁 Beautiful start to Sunday opening the trap and walking the fluffballs. Fair few painted ladies about, oodles of small heath butterflies and song thrushes, wonderful buff tip twig-like moth. And a cuckoo just called - 1st one I've heard in this valley.
Magical atmosphere at the launch of Anne's wonderful new book The Wildness at Booka bookshop. What does it take resist and rewild in a world built on control?
Stunning bluebells at the wonderful Cwm Weeg gardens, Dolfor. The density of flowers is astonishing. Opening to the public again in May.
Loving this going with the flow #gardening style. The rocket and Chinese leaves appeared after last year's potatoes so brassicas it is. Planted some kale and brussels in with them. Garlic went in around the self-seeded forget-me-nots and a Spanish walking stick cabbage leftover from last year.
Stunning flowers from Welsh Flower Barrow at Llanidloes market. So good to buy direct and support local growers #BuyLocal #CutFlowers
Sooo many scarlet tiger moth caterpillars on this green alkanet 😁 #TeamMoth @gardenmothscheme.bsky.social Madame Blackbird has chosen her nest spot well, not 3m away!
First orange tip #butterfly of the season @ukbutterflies.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social Northern Montgomeryshire
No cowslips here but plenty of lady's smock, common dog violets and wood anemone, and the first bluebells #WildflowerHour
Good morning #BlueSky Soundtrack: song thrush, wren, blackcap, robin, crow, house sparrow, blue tit, chiffchaff, blackbird, crow, nuthatch. #photography #Birdlife #nature With thanks to the blackthorn for taking over the garden and bringing blossom to make the heart sing.
The upside to Blackthorn taking over the garden. Plus Damson, Amelanchier lamarckii and Magnolia. A happy time of year #WildflowerHour (late as usual 😂)
Wonder which one of these stories is going to be all over the news today 🤔 Priorities, humans?
Orchard trees haven't done well in this field so seeing how well the sheep fleece does at keeping the grass down. Cardboard no good. Some well-rotted woodchip went in under there too. Trying a 1 yr-old Denbigh Plum and a 2 yr-old Cariad cherry (came with a beautiful shape) from Ian Sturrock.
Maybe less of this would help 🤷🏼♂️ It's not doing great things for climate breakdown either...
CO2 emissions generated by blowing up 2 oil tankers, anyone? These people need locking up for crimes against the whole world. And when I say 'these people' read all the trigger-happy leaders of the world.
