On July 4, 2026, the so-called "United States" will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The very document that called our ancestors "Merciless Indian Savages" while enslaving our Black kin, all in the name of "freedom for all."

We watched as over 300 riders and their horses charged up the hill where our ancestors bravely fought and defeated Custer and the 7th U.S Cavalry to protect our people, culture, and way of life from genocide.

On this day, we are reminded of the fierce love of our ancestors and all the sacrifices they made for us; all the men and women who bravely rode into battle 150 years ago, right here in the Greasy Grass of so-called Montana.

Today was a powerful day as thousands of Indigenous Peoples gathered at the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Greasy Grass to reignite our warrior spirit and remember who we are as mighty Indigenous Nations.

Uranium Project Hearing Adjourned! Yesterday, the Oglala Lakota Nation Youth Council stood with elders and uranium fighters, Alex White Plume and Lilias Jarding, Black Hills Clean Water Alliance, after the uranium project hearing was halted.

This victory follows a week of concentrated action by community and tribal leaders in South Dakota to protect the land.

Today, NDN Collective was notified that Pete Lien & Sons sent a letter to the United States Forest Service, officially withdrawing their plan of operations for the Rochford Mineral Exploratory Drilling Project (RMEDP) at Pe’ Sla.

On Tuesday May 5th, we confirmed that all the drills and equipment associated with the Rochford Mineral Exploratory Drilling Project operated by Pete Lien & Sons were removed from every drill pad. This was confirmed by the protectors on site.

‼️Important Update from the Pe’ Sla Protectors Camp: This morning the Pe’ Sla Protectors engaged in peaceful negotiations with the US Forest Service to ensure Pete Lien & Sons dismantled the unoccupied drill site before we allowed them to enter the Pe’ Sla Protector Camp.

The hearing began today at the Federal Courthouse in Rapid City for the emergency temporary restraining order that was filed on 4/28 by plaintiffs (NDN Collective, Black Hills Clean Water Alliance, and Earthworks) in the ongoing lawsuit against the U.S. Forest Service. 📸 Video credit: Tasina Smith

Today (5/4), Rapid City High School students marched during school hours to the courthouse to demand Pe' Sla be protected, access to clean water, and the ability to pray on the land where their ancestors have for thousands of years. 📸 Credit: Angel White Eyes
