Did any of my UK friends read this growing up? Far as I can tell it was reasonably well known in the US, but I don't know how it ended up in our house in North East England in the 1980s, in this specific US edition. Just curious if anyone else in the UK read it.

Awake to the awful news that Tony Stella has died. A generational talent who I had the honour and pleasure of working with on a number of projects and who I was discussing future projects with as well. Not only an extraordinary artist, he was an truly impassioned lover of film. A huge loss.

Wearing one of my birthday gifts.

It's Franju Day! (Georges Franju BOTD in 1912). Which also means I've done another trip round the sun. Watch something sublime today :-)

My daughter wants to watch the Nolan Batman movies (and the Adam West), so as much as they're on Disney+ I saw used blurays going cheap & picked them up. Meanwhile, fate saw fit to gift me with the complete first season of The Rockford Files on the shelves in the same store. :-)

Apparently, CHARLEY VARRICK almost starred Clint Eastwood. I'm so glad he decided not to do it. Matthau is perfection in the role. Clint would have upset the perfect balance of the film we ended up with.

I'm going to say it again... Butch & Sundance: The Early Days is a really good movie. It probably has as much in common with McCabe & Mrs Miller as it does the original Newman/Redford movie. And who ever thought that Tom Berenger would give Paul Newman a run for his money in the prettiness stakes!

Still avec lurgy, but new bag, new coffee pot (I killed the last one by walking away and forgetting it was on the hob) plus plenty to keep me occupied over the next week of remaining time off. *Love* that this edition of the Gormenghast novels has intros by both Anthony Burgess *and* Quentin Crisp!
