Mostly done with MSH, but very much interested in DSK flashbacks, and somehow trophied with this very medium RW deck. Started UW pack 1 but a couple Mayhems later decided to do the full pivot instead of splashing the red. Gameplay was great, as usual for DSK.
And finally a few of the more interesting decks with positive records: RWb 2-1 Dawson RW 2-1 Liam WB 3-0 Chun
A few more examples of pod draft decks to close things off, starting with mine: UR 2-1 this week WBg 1-2 (punted R3) 2 weeks ago UBw 3-0 from one of the Cosmos drafts
Overall, the set is...fine. Good gameplay goes a long way for me, and I think the PT will be fun to watch. Both the PT prep drafts I host for local qualified players were won by RB! RBug Omar this week RB Dawson 2 weeks ago
Four hands are better than one? But not 5. Never 5... Deathtouch and card advantage is a potent combination, and I want to fill my decks with Power-Up cards. Five trophies in a row now, all U or W but very few straight UW. You still get rewarded for finding the open colour
Still having plenty of good games in the format, while also praying for pods to hopefully shift and rebalance in week 3. If they don't, these games are going to get old eventually... Got to pop off with Echo a bunch this draft, some wild comebacks thanks to mostly her.
Third 🏆 on the spin. Gameplay is great but drafting less so. Currently avoiding red and black unless I see rares (to great success). Loki continues to disguise himself as a Super Genius and just draws me a card every turn, sometimes on my turn and theirs with tapper or adaptoid.
Back to back 🏆, this time with UG and a light artifact package. The Ant-Man Armys triggering Moon Girl was nice, and Vision Quest is 100% worth the splash when you have a couple targets for it. UG also the best shell for Atlantis Attacks, which in turn really likes Falcon's Wings
Trophy with slightly sus mana GWr bombs. GGG, WW and R in the mana symbols is a bit much, but importantly all the cards in the deck are high impact. Worst performer was prob Okoye, which I would not have guessed pre-format (and she's still fine).
P1p1 Doom and held on despite black being cut. Pet Avengers were great, Synthoids is a nothing card but needed a 2, and Cloak and Dagger has really weird UI (lost a game due to "choosing" to take nothing when I declined from their hand, the creature goes off to the side)
My son, who knows very little about mtg, made me a Father’s Day (magic) card! Including me dealing with his lunch bag, cleaning up his stuffed animals, coaching his soccer team and doing the laundry while dealing with my 3 month long injury lol
5-2 in the last draft of EA, only got 4 drafts in (4-3, 2-3, 5-2, 5-2) but saw enough to be optimistic for the format so far. The boards spread out real fast, and the power-up stuff seemed strong overall.
First 5 win deck in EA (retiring after 5 to try new stuff) with UW. Early predictions of it being a slow format seem fairly accurate, though you can't just skip turn 2. Shoutout to Ari Lax for talking up the lifelinker, it's been nice to have a 2 that's relevant much later.
Not playing nearly as much anymore, but jumped in to a draft today and hit top 500 with Wide Open Boros. When you end up with 11 gold cards from your school in your pool at the end, there's a pretty good chance your deck is going to be great.
Had some time for a qualifier but will not have time for the event itself, so 3-0 scoop in the Bo3 queue with this. Tested the last op with the "hello" and when they didn't reciprocate I ALMOST played out of spite, but no point really. Deck was great
Usually Prismari has at least a tiny splash, but played it stright here with tons of counters and worked out great. A bit awkward for the tablet, but a double mana rock is still good even if it whiffs. Horse plus a Sanar responsible for winning most games.
P1p1 Snarl Song, but ended up with it in the sb despite playing green, which I COULD still see being wrong. I expect I'm not good enough at getting the 3rd colour and no chance at 4+ means this was somewhere close to the correct build, but interested in opinions. Cauldron was op
Arena trying to put me on hardmode, but the deck was way too good to keep down in the end. Getting to play Ancestral Recall and Force of Will together in retail limited sure does feel like cheating though, let me tell you...
It finally happened! Witherbloom was wide open! Lost round 1 on a mull to 5 (vs I think a pro, OhPippen. Seth Manfield?) then tore through the rest of the field including a final vs Eken. Hope I get to do this again sometime.
"So Marc, it's week 3. Are the Arena pods geting harder?" "Um, welll..."
Sometimes when your deck is really good at drawing cards and killing things you just need a couple big ol' elks. On a bit of a heater atm, drafting everything but black. Not opposed to it but people still picking the black kill spells way too high.
Pretty direct correlation between the pods getting scrappier and the number of Tackle Artists I'm playing, but it's been working out! Partway through the @chordocalls.bsky.social pod and wondering if Alex would have played Archaic here, and if so over what?
Not quite the prowess deck, but finally got to play proactive Prismari to an unexpected trophy. Tackle Artists overperformed, winning a couple games by themselves backed by Chase Inspiration. This deck really wanted some of the 1R 2/2s though, just never saw any.
Good news: I'm not seeing Potioner's Trove go criminally late anymore. Bad news: Soup's still on the menu ...not really bad news though, as it's nice to have the deck still be viable. Another evening trophy 🤔 with Bad mana 5c. Load bearing Visionary's Dances for sure
Another evening trophy with a kinda weird unfocused deck. Maybe there is something to the conspiracy that matches are a bit easier in the evenings when all the people with real jobs log in after work? I guess I'd call this Jeskai burn? I dunno. Also Cosmos crushing at the PT ♥️
My learnings in this set have been steering me away from decks like this, I feel on the B01 ladder if you are going rampy/big you kinda need to maximize your power and be converging for full value, but an unexpected trophy here! LOTS of games with a turn three 6/6...
Could be jetlag, set complexity, or something else entirely, but I am noticing I am making a LOT of mistakes in SOS. That's a good thing if gameplay is decision heavy, and if I'm going to lose I alway like it to be my fault. Soup 🏆, prob should have played swamp or WB dual tbh
After a bunch of 3-3s, 4-3s and 5-3s with mostly Witherbloom and Converge Prismari, I finally got to draft "the underdrafted week 1 deck" in Lorehold and was very impressed. So much grind despite the low curve gives you tons of options every turn.
Couple fails just before this, but ending the day on my third trophy of the day (and of the format) with a 7-0 UGr deck. Trudges are obviously great, but especially when you can then leave up barrage turn 2 and kill anything. Tam played well, and impressed with 1st-yr too
2 for 2 (but with losses this time) as we move up to gold in my mini almost-bronze to mythic run. No clue what the correct number of Troves were supposed to be here, but 2 plus the vehicle felt right.
