Memory lane while organizing my office! This was summer 2001, with a formative mentor, the late Dr David Towle, dissecting the green crab endocrine organ for genetic analysis as an undergrad. 🧪Great memories of my time @mdibl.org and how important UG research is!
The Bark app is now on my teen’s new iPhone. (We did the “wait ‘til 8” - 8th grade). It prompted us to take a quiz on the euphemisms for drugs the “kiddos” might use. Disturbed to find that the 🧪🧪 symbol we all use here @bsky.app for science posts is apparently meth?? Sigh.
Science is international and that’s one of its best things 💚 (seen in my building last week) 🧪🧪
Congrats Jake Willows on winning the Peripheral Nerve Society cover image competition! 2yrs of membership awarded and a full year on the Journal of PNS cover. We accepted the award for him today at the annual mtg. 🎉🎉 #dorsalrootganglia #peripheralnerves 🧪🧪
Cloth posters are the BEST invention for international conferences. No wrinkles, high resolution even for fluorescent images, and lightweight in a carry on. 🎉 looking forward to re-connecting with this great PNS community 🎉 #PNSociety #PNS2026 🧪🧪
🧪 Inspiring first annual Women’s Health Summit yesterday - women’s health talks and discussions among industry, investors, patients, scientists and clinicians - organized by Pillar in Boston. Energizing optimism in the room all day! #womenshealth
Huge congrats to newly minted Dr Jake Willows (yesterday) & Dr Tianyi Tao (today)!! Fantastic job! As tough as things are in science right now, it’s the PEOPLE who make it all worth it. 🎉🎉 🧪🧪
Happening today! We hope to see you there 🧪🧪 us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
Proud to advocate for patients, clinicians and researchers who want to see better treatments and a cure for #peripheralneuropathy. The Foundation for PN has had massive growth over the last year, and moving toward an exciting 2027 symposium! 🧪🧪
Indianapolis is a biotech/biomed research powerhouse. Enjoyed my visit at IU and Lilly this week, the scientific discussions were so uplifting. Thanks to Jon Flak for hosting me! 🧪🧪
Translation of scientific discovery in action! Our Keenan iCORPs team - 2 Fisher MBA students (Bria, Chase) + Gargi (postdoc our research group) - did a great job w early customer discovery - our new treatments for metabolic & nervous system (obesity, neuropathy). 🧪
Oh wow! It finally got warm! Outdoor goodbye celebration with the lab for Karierah and Holly tonight.
A bit late for V-day this year, but from our lab to all of you: a flower bouquet (neuromuscular junction) by Magda, and a green heart (dorsal root ganglion) by Gargi 💐💚🧪
A study of millions of life science papers revealed that manuscripts with women in key authorship roles spent longer between submission and acceptance 🧪🧪https://t.co/uhQFaNCW3W
Love this tradition @ohiostatepress.bsky.social. Promoted faculty pick a book and write a dedication. 🧪💚🧪 Here is mine from my promotion to Professor in 2025.
Grateful to be at NIH (or the “mothership” as a fellow speaker called it today), to support the next generation of new @dknet.org (NIDDK) investigators. Glad to pay it forward, and remembering how impactful this event was for me after my first R01. Still learning from colleagues!
Another great line-up for the 2nd annual Adipose Biology Conference in Montreal in 2026! Organized by Kazak, Sung and Beaudry. Truly enjoyed the ABC in 2025, highly recommend! 🧪🧪
The power of executive coaches in academic medicine career trajectories: hearing from #HeatherBrod heatherbrod.com for our research accelerator (RAPTIC) today tinyurl.com/y58kpdx3 #researchinnovation #coaching #academicmedicine 🧪🧪
Huge congratulations to Gargi Mishra who did a phenomenal job defending her PhD today! Very proud of her many accomplishments in our lab. 🧪🧪
The diversity of adipose functions in health - including nervous system involvement and “adipose neuropathy” - gaining traction in the lay press. Quoted Seely, P Cohen, Me, & Bluher. Great coverage by @newscientist.com #adipose www.newscientist.com/article/2503... 🧪🧪
Truly enjoyed my time at the Berry Diabetes Center at Columbia this week, delivering a seminar and meeting with colleagues. Great conversations! Thank you to my host @zeltserlab.bsky.social and her lab!
Found this relic on the “free” table today. Wow would my students laugh to know I used these overhead sheets to complete my PhD comprehensive exam defense. No more “slides” on slide projectors, but we didn’t apparently allow PPT either. 😂😂 The end of an era! 🧪🧪
Another great meeting of the metabolism, obesity, nutrition and diabetes symposium (CDI-MOD) at Michigan this year! Always a friendly crowd and great mix of superb talks. 6 members of our lab, 3 did posters. 🧪🧪
Very ready for a long weekend fully UNplugged starting tonight. Let the emails pile up!! My brain needs to blissfully avoid the inbox for a bit. This is your sign to do the same ;) 🧪🧪
Looking forward to seeing colleagues at Michigan State soon! Love this time of year in Michigan 🍂🍁🧪
Love an early writing sesh with my weekend writing buddy, over cappuccino! 🧪🧪
Fluorescence Friday! Gargi images a lot of DRGs in the lab, and these two appeared as animals to her. Can you see them? #fluorescencefriday #peripheralnervoussystem #rorschach 🧪🧪
Please consider sharing - new flyer for our clinical trial that is still recruiting patients with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy for spinal cord stimulation. #neuropathy #diabetes #neuromodulation 🧪🧪
The grant that had so much care and attention, years of preliminary data, input from trusted colleagues, many rounds of edits. And it goes to peer review. 🧪🧪
