One underrated vector for this is that the food it makes frequently looks extremely offputting. More than once I've been considering being lazy and ordering delivery but lost my appetite on looking too closely at this attempted avocado toast.
same but different (credit to fishfission on tumblr, from Babs's "each of your funniest fails on patrol" entry in Batfam powerpoint night)
It's great, but it's at least a contest for me with Graves's half-poetic Iliad (also with no companion Odyssey, alas), which to me evokes something like the seder ritual where chanted lyrical prose gives way to outright singing at the times that require it.
(the answer, since it's less obvious than some answers I've seen)
Zohran is the first mayor in 80 years who could rock a statue like this one

Obviously it's terrible that the administration/DOGE blocked outgoing grants. But acting as if NEH staff (not admin folks, even at the executive level) redirected those funds to put up plasterboard walls of art is financially and civically illiterate in exactly the way that enables those monsters.
In the interest of great american state fairness, shoutouts to the National Endowment for the Humanities which took its role seriously and put on an exhibit of art by kids depicting their American heroes. Shame that it was shoved in a corner of the otherwise grotesque "Faith And Family" pavilion.
There's honestly barely any security, just a metal detector that you basically get waved through (but few entrances). Also these directions are misleading as directions to the event; they're giving the closest stop to the WMATA booth but one entrance is right at the north Smithsonian exit.
I was there today and those structures would NOT survive the trip
Objectively funny choice of music; at first I thought they were getting the message wrong but Uptown Girl came on next so I think they just went with the DJ starter pack
Underrated feature of this bullshit is the decision to frankenstein eagle wings onto the statue of liberty and hand the resulting artificial harpy a shield without otherwise changing her pose to account for it. I'm just glad they found the time to give her more prominent tits.
1. Me, I have the courage. 2. You are MASSIVELY overestimating the scope of the state pavilions.
On the evening of game 4 of the NBA finals, I was by chance at Citi Field watching the Mets badly lose a regular season game where nothing interesting happened. It was the emptiest I've ever seen the place and it was orders of magnitude more crowded than this.
If there is a heaven, I have to believe that Robert Caro will be permitted to spend his time there writing (and I will be able to spend mine, if any, reading) a biography of this man, beyond the reach of his temporal power and with full access to every scrap of paper he's ever scribbled on.
If I had a nickel for every time a reactionary legal movement culminated in an extremely bad decision that aptly had "Slaughter" in the title . . . .
I cannot be the only one who thought of Adam on @jetlagthegame.bsky.social when I got to this point.
Every hometown's got the ominous megastructure, what's yours? (many options but this is the correct one, in part because the only photos I could find capturing all the spans at once had to be taken from the sky (also because, you know, center of power for our malevolent demiurge))
Name a TV show you're positive no one remembers but you. (I mean obviously there are others who remember this one but I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention it.)
