After lining everything up properly and mounting, I discovered another issue: once mounted, there was still some slop after everything settled. I anticipated this (well, anticipated maybe not hanging them correctly) and put nuts both behind and in front of the mount plate.

Once drywall is done, need to prime+paint (or use paint+prime combo) and once paint is dry, then you can attach the mounts. Currently I'm waiting for second drywall mud layer to dry. Could have attached the 2-bys on top of existing wall, but wanted a cleaner look. About 8 hours into project so far.

In my situation, what I needed to do was remove the drywall, notch out the framing and lay down an 8’ 2x8 and a 8’ 2x4 (2x10 or 2x12 would probably work better but I went with materials at hand)
