I can't believe they show a fucking dungeness crab on the AWP Baltimore logo. Like putting a crab on the promo banner is already a bit on the nose but at least give our local blue crabs the fucking respect they deserve. This is embarrassing, humiliating, infuriating.

This story has not survived in this precise form, and Polidori may well have been distracted by what happened later that evening. At midnight, he noted, as Mary breastfed her four-month-old baby child, the group
really began to talk ghostly. L[ord] Byron] repeated some verses of Coleridge's 'Christabel', of the witch's breast; when silence ensued, and Shelley, suddenly shrieking and putting his hands to his head, ran out of the room with a candle. Threw water in his face and gave him ether.
He was looking at Mrs. S[helley], and suddenly thought of a woman he had heard of who had eyes instead of nipples, which, taking hold of his mind, horrified him. 35

There’s a lot going on here, but I’m stuck on the fact that there was a 17th century vampire named “Cuntius.”

Case two is that of Johannes Cuntius, anote stan, who was fatally trampled by horses. 6 A black cat appeared at his deathbed and a tempest raged from the moment he died until he was interred. He then rose as a
'Spiritus incubus or Ephialtes' - again a violent and aggressive spectre: noisy (in manducation) and malodorous, frequently attacking citizens by breathing fire on them, biting, and tearing at their throats, his unearthly presence heralded by candles burning blue.'7 Cuntius was an abductor of babies, a strangler, and a rapist; he sucked cows dry and ate live chickens.
He could also transmute milk into blood, and was a shape-shifter himself, although - in contrast to the shoemaker - Cuntius's metamorphoses changed him either into a malicious dwarf or an animate wooden staff. Six months after being buried, his corpse was exhumed and found to be wholly fresh, his eyelids batting. The corpse was duly cut into small pieces and, with great difficulty, cremated; his ashes were likewise cast into a river.

Happened upon this horrifying little anecdote while researching for my vampire class

The most outlandish example of this is the (doubtless apocryphal) claim that the Catholic order of the Brothers of Mercy (Barmherzige Brüder) at Graz annually prepared remedies from an entire corpse. Every Easter, a young man being treated for some minor ailment in one of their hospitals would be seized, suspended upside down, and tickled to death. 'The honourable brethren thereupon boil the corpse to a paste and utilise the latter as well as the fat and the burnt bones in their drug store. 43

Finally read the entirety of Chase Berggrun’s book of “Dracula” erasure poetry “Red” and I’m obsessed with how it eradicates, rewrites, and transforms the original text’s misogyny and queerphobia. Bram Stoker would’ve hated it and that’s about the highest praise I can give.
