Where do we go from here? The planet is a gunboat in a sea of fear There is, however, such a thing as society
This post has aged… with interest. Nice to have had ACT specify that the little shits are children 🤔 Another reason for us all to think about voting FOR them?
Interesting summary — I’m particularly struck by the idea that the volcanoes actually *protect* the east coast! #eqnz www.geonet.org.nz/response/1HM...
It is *possible* that the delight I take in the spherical cow is only on account of some unholy Venn crossover of being both a kiwi and a physicist… Do others find this as delightful as I do? Thoughts, @rjme.bsky.social?
Last minute, and not particularly eloquent — but in before the deadline and hopefully clear enough 🤷♀️
As much as I hate my inbox I really do love these little gems that are the real payoff from becoming a prof of physics… 🥰
Apparently it’s Tuesday. Which means if you’re going, you still have time to pick up one of these…
Not to put too fine a point on it, but even Luxon knows about this stuff — he was at Zethos’ plant opening this week. Obviously sustainability isn’t the selling point for him, but EVEN SO!!! 😅 Would maybe be useful if the various parts of this govt spoke to each other…
The one update to that piece is the cabinet papers I was sent in March — heavily redacted, but does identify support for start ups in the recycling and reuse space as a reason to engage. This part, I think has real potential
The prioritisation report is here. The table shows the proposed structure. My concern is that scientific leadership has no way of being included in the strategic layer in the ways it needs to be: INCLUDING finding the meaningful crossover points between pillars www.mbie.govt.nz/dmsdocument/...
This is ridiculous. Who counts as a local to kiwirail? Residents of Auckland or Wellington. If you live in Hamilton, Palmerston North, or any of the towns in between that the train passes through (but does NOT serve) you are out of luck. Someone ACTUALLY thought this would be good PR. My god 😳🤦♀️
Ok, Google-fu has failed so I’m going to have to see if someone here knows… What type of spider is this?
Here’s a wee extra just for you! The way they can be so completely chill — this one is crossing the track only a metre ahead of me (whence my having to zoom out in haste 😅)
A final night camping halfway between Bungaree hut and Port William to make the final day shorter meant a final dip in the sea. I think my final tally was a swim every day but one? Not too too bad for a long tramp…
Posting this pic of Christmas Village hut because sometimes, you know, a thousand words…
I will add a hut photo though because at Christmas Village, this wee visitor came to peer through the window… (I must have seen a couple of dozen deer overall but getting a photo? That takes doing lol)
After a night at Yankee River hut, it is onwards to Christmas Village. But I would hope that anyone reading this thread would have understood that the huts are not the destination and not the point; it is all the little places in between…
