I genuinely understand that urban construction is hard, but to block a protected bike lane to unload heavy equipment and damage that bike lane in the process is just awful. There are better ways to do this. @cmcharlesallen.bsky.social @ddotdc.bsky.social
I’ve seen these Amazon pedal/electric small deliver trucks around a lot recently. Seems like a terrific development.
It’s really exciting to have Streets Market open in Hill East. I remember when this building got build a decade ago, and this was always the kind of business I hoped we’d see go in. Welcome to the neighborhood, Streets!
Terrific day for the 14th annual Electric Vehicle Grand Prix at RFK. An impressive set of high schoolers who build and race electric cars. The silence of these cars is quite the contrast with #TruckTouch going on across the parking lot! 😂

I noticed this stamped concrete on 10th Street this evening and wondered if it’s a @ddotdc.bsky.social pilot, then I read @cmcharlesallen.bsky.social’s newsletter that confirmed it is. First impression is positive. Sure, it’s not quite as nice looking as good brick, but seems better in other ways.
Watching what it takes to melt a medium big pile of snow at RFK gives me a lot of appreciation for the idea that *glaciers are receding*. This is Portage glacier from the visitors center. When I was a kid you could see the glacier from here.

I realize I’m late to this party, but if you haven’t tried Civic on 8th St SE you really should. Such a lovely welcoming vibe created by the space and people.
Now that the snow is melting, I hope that the city can learn lessons for future snowfalls. For example: snowplowing doesn’t have to be a zero sum game. Here, snow plowed off the street blocks a sidewalk. And snow on Penn Ave SE could have been plowed onto the median instead of the bike lane.
@metrorailinfo.bsky.social the driver of this truck had been parking on the sidewalk blocking the cleared ground, most recently tonight. There is plenty of parking at the drop off area next to this sidewalk.
Yesterday, a van of 4-5 DPW employees showed up here on E St SE. They got out and started shoveling the alley entrance, which was great. However, this is how they left the intersection and the access to the sidewalks. I really wish I better understood the city’s strategy with snow.
This morning on my walk to work I helped another neighbor in a wheelchair navigate our near-impassible streets. I understand that snow like this is uncommon, but the city’s approach to snow management is not working for residents at a basic level.
The Capitol Hill Safeway had done a disgraceful amount of sidewalk clearing. They are a major company providing an essential service, there’s no excuse for the state of their sidewalks. This is mere feet from the entrance. 5/
First and foremost the power and goodness of neighbors. I encountered Ms. Winter near the Potomac Ave metro, and by the time she arrived at Safeway at least five strangers were helping navigate her wheelchair across the snow. Neighbors helping neighbors is awesome. 2/
I spent about two hours tonight helping Ms. Winter get to and from the Capitol Hill Safeway to buy dinner for her grandkids. It struck home a number of things about our city and how it deals with snow for me. 1/
I’ve heard a lot of people wondering why many streets aren’t plowed. Maybe this is part of it? Three snowplows just went down Kentucky SE and did two separate passes. This is the… result. 🤷♂️
