Generally haven't left the house today but I was responsible and masked up to go get my comfort breakfast bagel. Really hoping I can bounce back before Bon Odori this weekend, I would be really sad to miss that.
Made it to #SIGGRAPH 2026! My first time. Come find me if you’re here and let’s shoot the shit!
I finally spent abt 90min this AM slowly farting around my neighborhood with my new e-bike that I got for my birthday! Feeling optimistic that this will be the thing that will finally teach me to ride a bike. Def not ready for the streets of LA yet but didn’t want to stop, I was having so much fun.
New glasses and a centennial hat for the West LA Buddhist Temple. Hangin outside Nijiya w/ @alabapsi.bsky.social
I would like to believe that if there is nowhere else that I can convincingly resolve the clash in values that live inside of me, that at least I can do that for myself through juxtaposition in my scrapbook.
I took ONE trip to the Sawtelle strip right after reading this article and encountered THREE instances of GPT Flyer Slop without looking particularly hard. It's the vertical separators and the same line width/spacing on all of the iconography for me.
It was an exhausting work day in the sun, but @alabapsi.bsky.social and I both had a ton of fun staging the wiring up the fireworks, even if we had to stay late to clean up the mess left behind afterwards. Thanks to Hutch, Jingles, Red Dog & the rest of the Hutch FX Crescenta Valley Fireworks crew!
Spent the 4th of July watching a proper show from the perspective I've always wanted to catch: right on the ground by the firing console! So intense - the chest-rattling BOOM as it leaves the launching tube & the burning paper flying everywhere was awesome. Debris even landed on me a couple times!
Enjoyed our first trip to Osaka Ohsho Gyoza & Tapas with friends on the strip Friday.
This sign at Tsutsumi Japanese Artisan Crepe on the Sawtelle strip cracked me up. "Dawg, this joint is GOATED with the sauce." (Forgive my intergenerational mish-mosh of slang.)
The hype for picking up fresh Fugetsu-Do from the storefront in Little Tokyo is definitely real. We're lucky we squeezed in before the line got too long this afternoon.
We finally visited Otomisan, the famous "last Japanese restaurant in Boyle Heights", for the 1st time & it didn't disappoint. And we managed to walk right in just a few minutes after opening, which limited our exposure to the fire air. I want to come back some time to see if I can scan the inside.
This is the first time I've noticed a reference to Bronzeville since learning that that is what became of Little Tokyo during the internment years - it changed into a Black area.
I picked up an amazing new kokeshi of a tengu while doing some birthday shopping at Dear Vanilla in Little Tokyo today. His head freely rotates in a bobblehead-like fashion too. Thanks @alabapsi.bsky.social for a fun afternoon out 🥰
I was looking forward to getting this splat portrait from #OriginSpin by #BlueVishnu done for weeks! So fun. New haircut. Pipeline took seconds. #AWE2026
I can't recommend checking out @tenderclaws.bsky.social 's latest project "Body Proxy" enough if u get a chance to try it. They've been mining the same themes since Virtual Virtual Reality but this is the most effectively I've seen all the pieces come together into something so brilliant & original.
I didn’t grab the Sawtelle Sake, but fortunately Britney’s parents had some sake in the fridge!
Man, I just finished my grocery run, but now I'm thinking I need to stop by Blackbeard's in order to pick up some Sawtelle Sake in order to celebrate when Nithya passes Spencer tomorrow. And it will taste alllll the sweeter seasoned by the tears of reactionary Nextdoor homeowners. Suck it, idiots.
I gave up on trying to give my kitted-out Vive a 2nd lease on life; I can't give it away. But hey, VR has come a long way in 10yrs: the lighthouses, cable tethers, even controllers, none of it is necessary anymore. So I kept display pieces, general cables & scrapbookable paper & threw away the rest.
Grabbed the murals in this alley in #MarVista #LA while I was waiting for laundry. I see Janis, Robert Trujillo maybe?, Miles, and - deciding the music - Esperanza. Really pleased with the clarity on the fine text. The dim side fared worse, but still clear. #3DGS #LichtFeldStudio #GaussianSplatting
I captured this #OdioComposer WIP back in January of 2025 but never shared it widely. I really like this piece and want to keep working on it, but I don't want to let not working on it get in the way of sharing what I've done. #SpatialAudio #AmbientMusic #Soundscapes #FieldRecording
One of my favorite #SHARP extractions I've tried. Unsurprisingly, this technique works best w/photos that have a DEEP implied Z-axis w/detail moving toward the vanishing point. From the tour of the Riot campus that @wunk.bsky.social brought the fam on back in Dec 2025 #GaussianSplat #LichtFeldStudio
Playing with a SHARP extraction of a front-facing picture of this ki'i. Zooming in on a side view of the fraying edges of an extraction is something I'm rapidly becoming obsessed with. These first two are such a vibe.
Every once in a while, we gotta hit up our local taco stand operation @ Sawtelle & National, Brothers Cousins Tacos. Def a place you need to walk off, but it delivers every time. So good. Line moves quick and the way the pastor burrito is balanced with pickled onions and pineapple is perfection.
omg, upgrading my 10yo mobo/CPU in Feb to '21-era parts led up to this: finally having all of the fucking prerequisites met in order to be able to upgrade from Win10 to 11. Boot disk is GPT now, enabling Secure Boot, the last step. Even then, they won't get me upgrading until I'm forced to in Oct.
