Soft pastels. Yeah, the chalky kind. For years I tried oil pastels and watercolors, but never felt I could build up like I wanted to. Acrylics dry so fast and I’m not willing to do oils without a dedicated space. So soft pastels are perfect.
I decided to try to learn how to paint with pastels. This is the most fun I’ve had in ages. I should have quit watercolor years ago! This was my second painting. The first one is too embarrassing for words 🙃
And now I see all these women who are so strong and talented and have had real opportunities. Including *finally* professional opportunities, and I’m a little overcome with emotion. I love women’s sports. I can’t wait to see bayfc, we got a #pwhl team, and today I experienced ballhalla. 😭💪🏼💅🏻
I’d had to play on the boys soccer team in high school because there was no girls team. And in college we weren’t allowed in the athletic training facilities, they were for men’s teams.
It was my sophomore year in college. I was on the soccer team the previous year. How did Northeastern University decide to comply? They cut the strong successful women’s hockey team so they could divvy up the money amongst cheaper women’s sports, rather than cut even a dime from the crap men’s teams
3. Cohen v. Brown University Decision in November 1996: Brown University argued that women simply had less natural interest in sports than men, but the court rejected this. The ruling set a powerful nationwide legal precedent protecting women's sports from being disproportionately cut.
2. Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) Reports passed in October 1996. It required colleges to publicly disclose financial data about their athletic departments. Schools shared the stark funding, scholarship, and salary gaps between men’s and women’s sports, driving public accountability.
In 1996, three important things happened: 1. The “three prong test” was created to judge if athletic opportunities were equal: Proportional sports opportunities relative to enrollment, a history of expanding programs for the underrepresented sex, or fully accommodating the interests of that sex.
A lot of people think Title IX is from the 1970s, but the reality of equal opportunity for women’s athletics didn’t really land until 1996. Growing up before that, they wouldn’t have girls teams. Even at the high school level. Colleges had to offer women’s sports in theory, but no one checked.

10yo is doing algebra for fun but I’m getting notes home about refusal to do two digit multiplication homework. I never know how to successfully approach acceleration conversations, if you’ve dealt with the same, has anything worked for you? They just tell me to enroll them in extracurricular math
