there is now a 40-day period, not including the recess, that allows for parliamentary scrutiny, as set out in the Equality Act 2006.

If I'm reading this correctly, while the headings mainly talk about "conversion practices" in broad terms, the bill actually distinguishes between conversion practices and "abusive conversion practices" with the specific intention of outlawing the latter *while saying nothing on the former*.

2. Offence of carrying out an abusive conversion practice on an individual
(1) A person commits an offence if the person carries out an abusive conversion practice on an individual which causes—

(a) serious harm to the individual’s physical or mental health, or
(b) serious alarm or distress to the individual which has a substantial adverse effect on their usual day-to-day activities.
(2) A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable—

(a) on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding the general limit in a magistrates’ court, to a fine or to both;
(b) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years, to a fine or to both.

3. Offence of encouraging or assisting an abusive conversion practice performed outside England and Wales
(1) A United Kingdom person commits an offence if —

(a) the person carries out conduct in England and Wales that is capable of encouraging or assisting the carrying out by another person, outside England and Wales, of an abusive conversion practice on a United Kingdom individual which is likely to cause—
(i) serious harm to the individual’s physical or mental health, or
(ii) serious alarm or distress to the individual which has a substantial adverse effect on their usual day-to-day activities; and
(b) the person intends to encourage or assist the carrying out of an abusive conversion practice on the individual.

THE TOPIC OF gender has not been absent from recent theology. In fact, following Karl Barth’s insistence that humans are constituted as male and female, and that it is impossible to think of a humanity apart from these categories (Church Dogmatics), gender has played an important role among Catholic theologians such as Hans von Balthasar (Theo-Drama: Theological Dramatic Theory), John Paul II (Theology of the Body), and Angelo Scola (The Nuptial Mystery). Gender also appears as a fundamental category in the influential Protestant theologian Stanley Grenz (see “Theological Foundations for Male-Female Relationships,” Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society). Though these authors do not agree in every respect, they share a basic perspective, one that makes their approach to gender problematic not only for addressing questions like transsexuality, but for thinking theologically about sex at all.

I’m afraid I bring you some very sad news today.

John Blanche’s wife Lin has asked me to let you all know that John passed away a couple of days ago.

John was an inspirational artist, devoted to his family and a good friend to many. Always generous with his time and knowledge, he was very well loved by all who knew and worked with him. He’ll be hugely missed.

The world of Warhammer was brought to life by his vision of the grimdark setting and I know his art meant a lot to so many of you. He leaves behind an enormous legacy that has enriched many people’s lives.

Pope Francis’ social teaching develops along the lines of Gaudium et Spes, which invites us to view history through the lens of human hopes and vulnerabilities, and to bring them into dialogue with the Gospel. This approach emerges with particular clarity in Evangelii Gaudium, where he states that the Christian proclamation has an intrinsic social dimension and calls for a Church capable of listening to the cry of the poor, migrants and victims of new forms of slavery. In fact, gender dysphoria—the official psychiatric term for feeling oneself to be of the opposite sex—belongs in the family of similarly disordered assumptions about the body, such as anorexia nervosa and body dysmorphic disorder. Its treatment should not be directed at the body as with surgery and hormones any more than one treats obesity-fearing anorexic patients with liposuction. The treatment should strive to correct the false, problematic nature of the assumption and to resolve the psychosocial conflicts provoking it. With youngsters, this is best done in family therapy.

about his sexual identity is the good

to their given sex—and presume that sex-reassignment
will ease or resolve them.”94 The
Courage chaplain cannot single-handedly
address or resolve these conflicts over expectations
and roles, but he can help the individual
to reconsider his or her assumptions
in light of his vocation, that is, the expectations
that God has for the individual, and the
role he wills that each son or daughter of his
should play in the family, in the Church and
in the world. If a capacity for loving like a
father or like a mother is innate, a desire to
love in that way is likewise an inborn gift
from God. Gradually, gently helping a person
to consider and appreciate those capacities
and desires, and to find ways to exercise
them, can expand that person’s horizons and
ability to imagine what life might be like,
and what God has in mind. Conversations
with a therapist who shares the Church’s understanding
of anthropology and sexual
identity will also be helpful.

Father Kyle Schnippel, a Courage chaplain and chair of the apostolate’s board of directors, said he found the report “disappointing” and “disheartening” for Courage’s members, especially because Pope Leo XIV had just met with its leaders. He stressed that Courage is about conversion — conversion to Jesus — and that when one lives “in accord with what the Church teaches, what Jesus teaches, we find peace.”

Fionn exploded back, ‘But we’re NOT LESBIAN, right? We CAN’T be, we just can’t.’ Then she burst into sobs, clinging to the chest binder. It was a kind of comfort, the only one, it seemed. Through her mind it played: the RE teacher informing them that in some religions, including Christianity, same-sex attraction was considered an abomination, falling short of God’s ideal for human love. The PSHE teacher saying lesbians and gays were discriminated against and had to fight for their rights. Fionn didn’t want to fight, she just wanted to be. If she couldn’t be lesbian she must be – something else. Just make it stop, she pleaded. Just make puberty stop.

Honestly things are so chaotic now it's kinda hard to call it. But there is also hope in that even more politically conservative priests worry about the direction the administration is taking - suggesting that dissatisfaction with contemporary conservativism is actually a bipartisan issue

Because political conservatism can mean many different things, and does not necessarily imply support for the party or administration in power, we asked priests: “To what extent are you concerned about the policies of the current political administration in the U.S.?” We categorized the answers to this question according to the priests’ self-identification as conservative or liberal. Instead of a bell curve, the results showed that even among those priests who identify as “very conservative,” 66% are at least somewhat concerned about the current administration’s policies, with 83% of self-described “conservative” priests at least somewhat concerned.

Priests’ theological views (not shown) followed a similar pattern, though with an even sharper decline in progressivism and a stronger consolidation on the conservative side. For example, among priests ordained before 1975, more than 70% described themselves as theologically progressive, while in the 2010-or-later cohort only 8% did so. By contrast, over 70% of the youngest priests described themselves as either “conservative/orthodox” or “very conservative/orthodox,” leaving only about one in five in the “middle-of-the-road.” Thus, while the political views of priests retained a substantial moderate middle, theological views revealed a sharper polarization across generations.
