another day, another nixashearts resident evil 2 remake hot take hittin ur screens i truly would just like to talk more with people who enjoy the remakes and understand where they're coming from (especially folks who also enjoy the originals)

honestly speaking. it really pisses me off that the REmakes set the precedent that it's okay to like, completely alter themes of the original work in a remake
and people just eat that up
i know this is something that happens in movies all the time but i really haven't seen it a ton with games, and when it has, it's gotten a ton of backlash
and like i can see the hypocrisy argument coming a mile away with how much i eat up the FF7 Remakes and love those, but like, dude the FF7 Remakes actually keep the themes intact. if anything they're trying to be louder about it because there's clearly a shit ton of environmentalists at Square and they've been screaming about our treatment of the Earth in basically every FF game since the 90s and we're still on a collision course with climate disaster

figured it was time to move RE5 up on the Resident Evil ranking i like RE3 Classic but nothing really stands out about it besides the world and the Nemesis dynamic tbh. meanwhile i think about RE5's biggest moments on literally a daily basis

early re2 remake thoughts...... i can't keep getting away with this......

i'm trying so hard to stay open minded and connect with Resident Evil 2 Remake but it's just not hitting with me so far
i keep thinking about how RE2 1998 just pulled me in immediately as you walk through the door of the RPD and this one just hasn't
the atmosphere should be there from the get go
i get that its in service of giving him an arc but i feel like having Leon see that there's a survivor the moment he arrives (and then obv going and failing to save them) and coming back and Marvin is just there is just kind of a misstep
i wanna be piecing together what the fuck happened here, i want to wonder if there are other survivors, i want it to feel like this place devoid of life is the last bastion between Leon/Claire and the horrors occurring outside
it's also just. not very scary
i feel like this should have had a first person mode
and by extension a VR mode
i will obviously keep it going and let them cook but just urgh man
i really wanted to enjoy this return to Raccoon City but i just keep seeing all the things Resident Evil isn't anymore

and after 70 hours, i've finally finished 100%ing Pokemon Legends Z-A. quite a ride! (quite a grind... but i persevered 😔) it's certainly not everything i would have wanted from a return to Kalos, but i'd be lying if i said i didn't love it. so much fun!! my guy finally got his day :)
