Jerry Richardson - Jerry Richardson Is a researcher at the Institute for Journalism and Social Change (IJSC), where her work has been predominantly focused on cross-border follow-the-money investigations. She has a Master’s degree in Investigative Reporting from Birkbeck, University of London and previously worked on investigations at Truth Defence, a non-profit focused on state-disinformation and lawfare.

Sheena G. Magenya - Sheena G. Magenya has nearly two decades of civil society working experience in East and Southern Africa. She has a background in media and communications, and is interested in the opportunities that African women have to influence and effect change in social and political spaces, including online spaces. She is curious about technology and the internet, and passionate about intersectional feminist ideas and approaches to social justice. Sheena leads Communications and Community Engagement at the Association for Progressive Communication’s Women’s Rights Programme.

Justin Chidozie - Justin Chidozie the Co-Executive Director of CHEVS, a youth-led feminist collective advancing LGBTQI+ equality across Africa. A public policy professional with six years of experience in the LGBTQI+ and feminist movement, Justin works at the intersection of rights advocacy, strategic partnerships, and movement building across the African continent. At CHEVS, Justin leads the organisation's overall programme strategy, navigating the complex terrain of funding, power, and accountability that shapes what is possible for frontline organisations in the Global South. His work has given him a grounded, first-hand understanding of how external funding flows — including those from major philanthropic institutions — can simultaneously resource and undermine the communities they claim to support.

Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah (moderator) - Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah is an African Feminist activist and the author of The Sex Lives of African Women. She was cited by the BBC as one of its 100 most inspirational and influential women from around the world in 2022. She is the CEO of MAKEDA PR, a strategic communications company that specialises in working with feminist organisations globally, and Co-Founder of MASI Media which produces Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women, a website, podcast and festival that publishes and creates content that tells stories of African women’s experiences around sex, sexualities, and pleasure. She was previously Director of Communications and Tactics at the global feminist organisation AWID. She’s the Co-Founder/Co-Director of the Institute of Journalism

Islam Al Khatib (moderator) - Islam Al Khatib a Palestinian researcher and doctoral candidate at the LSE. Her work sits at the intersection of surveillance, knowledge production, and global tech infrastructures islam is currently the Knowledge building co-strategist at Noor’s, The (KB) Unit mission is to move beyond the one-size-fits-all paradigm and address the rising anti-rights movements, trends, and rhetoric. We operate on both macro and micro levels, analyzing discourse, tactics, imaginaries, funding streams, and institutions associated with these movements. Our focus extends to understanding their impact on democracy, marginalized groups, civil society, and societies as a whole.

(1/2): Securitization doesn’t just respond to crisis. It produces the conditions we live under. Emergency becomes permanent. Security extends beyond the state into platforms, capital, infrastructures shaping everyday life. Protection becomes a way to govern mobility, speech, dissent.

Against Securitization - “Securitization is not only achieved through speech that is emotion-stirring, dramatic and heavily draws on nationalistic imagery and ideology. Specific governance, bureaucratic and legal processes like the technologies used to police migrants at borders, classify persons as citizens or ‘aliens’, and surveil movements of criminalized communities, are all forms of securitization.”

Moderator - Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah is a communications strategist, facilitator, and writer with over 20 years of experience working with global feminist organisations and social movements. She is Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Institute of Journalism and Social Change and leads MAKEDA PR, a feminist communications agency. She is also the author of The Sex Lives of African Women and Seeking Sexual Freedom: African Rites, Rituals and Sankofa in the Bedroom.

Speaker - Diakhoumba Gassama is a Senegalese-Belgian Pan-African feminist and human rights advocate with over 20 years of global experience advancing gender justice, migration rights, and inclusive governance. She has held leadership roles with Amnesty International and the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID), and currently works with a U.S.-based philanthropic foundation.

Speaker - Heather Benjamin is the inaugural Director of the Nebula Fund, with a background spanning philanthropy, global policy advocacy, and grassroots activism. She previously spent a decade with the Open Society Foundations’ Public Health Program, where she worked on global HIV financing and sexual and reproductive health and rights. Her work has focused on supporting activists responding to transnational anti-gender movements and advancing funding and policies for SRHR, sex worker rights, and LGBTQI+ justice.

Speaker - Ana Ines Abelenda is a Latinx feminist from Brazil and Uruguay with over 20 years of experience advancing social and economic justice and supporting feminist movements across the Global South. Before joining Noor as Organizing Lead, she spent more than a decade at the Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) working on feminist economic justice, care economies, and labor rights. Her work focuses on building collective strategies to resist authoritarianism and advance systemic change.

(2/3): These regimes don’t keep us safe — they criminalize, silence, and erode access to justice. Our speakers will unpack how security narratives spread transnationally, how Big Tech and colonial legacies fuel them, and the tactics used to block and delegitimize organizing.

Speaker: Tina Al-khersan is a Staff Attorney at Project South, with experience supporting asylum seekers in Greece and advancing justice efforts with the Syria Justice and Accountability Centre. She has published in leading journals including the Harvard Law & Policy Review and Yale Journal of International Law.

Speaker: Mizue Aizeki is the Executive Director of the Collaborative Research Center for Resilience, where she leads research and advocacy on criminalization, borders, and migration control. She previously directed advocacy at the Immigrant Defense Project and is co-editor of Resisting Borders and Technologies of Violence. Her photography is featured in Dying to Live and Policing the Planet.

Speaker: Berfu Şeker is a feminist activist from Türkiye with extensive experience in civil society, organizing, and advocacy for gender justice. Over 15 years, she has led national and international efforts to counter anti-gender movements and strengthen rights-based approaches across the region. Alongside consulting for various NGOs, Berfu works as a Policy Expert at Kaos GL and serves as a Board Member of the 17 May Association.

Speaker: Subha Wijesiriwardena is a South Asian feminist researcher and activist based in New York, working across gender justice, human rights, and democratic freedoms. She brings deep experience in coalition-building, collective advocacy, and advancing feminist, anti-criminalization approaches in areas ranging from sexual and reproductive rights to digital rights. Her qualitative research targets longstanding epistemological gaps.
