In his book, Keir compares fact checking to "catching snowflakes in a blizzard," because "the speed at which the lies come tumbling over each other leaves anybody trying to follow and disentangle them disoriented and unable to keep up." I finally understand for the first time why autocrats lie so often and without shame.

Psychological projection is a defense mechanism where indlividuals attribute their own unacceptable thoughts, feelings, or motives to another person. In doing so, they defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities by denying their existence in themselves and attributing them to others.

After Mr. Epstein, who had pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution in Florida four years earlier, said he was considering a donation to the school, several influential people there moved to ensure she got in.

The dean of the dental college contacted the medical school in Ms. Shuliak’s native Belarus, where she had nearly finished her dental studies, to ask for her records. The adult dentistry chair sent Ms. Shuliak study guides and an outline for Columbia’s entrance exam. After Ms. Shuliak’s admission, Dr. Moss-Salentijn, the vice dean for academic affairs at the time, helped develop a personalized plan of study for Ms. Shuliak because she had joined Columbia later than usual for a dental transfer student.

Mr. Epstein subsequently gave $100,000 to a public health project run by the dean of the dental college at the time, Dr. Ira B. Lamster, and $50,000 to the dental school’s annual fund in Ms. Shuliak’s honor, the Justice Department documents show.

In short, Putin's record points less to concern for his nation than to the pursuit of power and the perpetuation of a bloodthirsty imperial order at all costs.

China now supplies 92 percent of the foreign components in the drones Russia uses to strike Ukrainian cities. Letting Russia prevail would not loosen that bond. It would reward Moscow for choosing Beijing.

This approach is well documented. Casey Michel has shown in his analysis of Russian wartime narratives, Moscow's objective is not coherence or credibility but psychological dominance. The Kremlin's strategy relies on flooding the zone with E contradictions, half-truths and outright lies, forcing adversaries to react - not act.

As former Ukrainian commander Valerii Zaluzhnyi wrote, "Russia's negotiators, like its-generals, fight to exhaust, confuse and divide. Their aim is not peace but delay; not compromise in pursuit of accord but conquest through deception."

Shawn Jackson and his wife, Destinv, both 26, said they were driving home from a son's basketball game when the family found themselves caught in a clash between protesters and federal agents in North Minneapolis.

Newly released documents show the extent of Renee Good's iniuries after she was shot by an ICE agent in south Minneapolis last week.

A Minneapolis Fire Department incident report details four gunshot wounds: two to her chest, one to her forearm and one to the head. She was not breathing and her pulse was "irregular" when paramedics arrived at the scene.

Having a mutation doesn't always make someone vulnerable: IEIs can behave unpredictably, Many people carry immunodeficiency related mutations without ever experiencing their effects - a phenomenon known as 'incomplete penetrance'. And although most IEIs with severe effects become apparent in childhood, some might lie dormant for decades. In unpublished work, Meyts and her team identified a person who has a mutation that
is linked to inflammatory disease, but
whose symptoms emerged only after a SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Scientists are still working to identify which
factors influence the severity of IEIs. In a
2025 study, Dusan Bogunovic, a paediatric
immunologist at Columbia University in
New York City, and his colleagues discovered that. in about 4% of IEIs. the disease-causing variant can be expressed differently in different cells?. The team also found evidence that this process might be regulated by epigenetic mechanisms which are influenced by environmental factors - suggesting that, not only might the same IEIs manifest differently ir different people, but the effects of these mutations could change over a person's lifetime. Bogunovic's team is currently searching for the factors, such as inflammation or certain infections. that
might control this variable allele
