1,741 “informed” consents with one click?! GDPR complaint against dict.cc filed

Today, noyb has filed a complaint against the popular online dictionary dict.cc.

The GDPR requires that consent is freely given, informed, specific and unambiguous. However, when visiting dict.cc, users are nudged into consenting to online tracking by a staggering 1,741 (!) “partners” with a single click.

This makes it impossible for users to know exactly who has access to their data and how it is actually used.

While dict.cc is an extreme example, requests to blindly waive your right to privacy for countless third parties is unfortunately a common issue with websites and apps relying on online advertising, even 8 years after the GDPR came into force.

US Supreme Court just blew up EU-US Data Transfers

On Monday, the US Supreme Court decided in Trump v. Slaughter that the US Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) may not be independent anymore.

In the current EU-US deal, the European Commission relies on the independent FTC 259 (!) times.

CRIF hat ein Register zu fast allen Erwachsenen in Österreich aufgebaut, um diese mit einem Bonitätsscore zu bewerten. Für 90% der Betroffenen basiert dieser Score v. a. auf Adresse, Geschlecht und Alter, obwohl diese Daten keinen echten Rückschluss auf die Kreditwürdigkeit ermöglichen.

Der CRIF-Score entscheidet oft darüber, ob du einen Vertrag bei Mobilfunkern, Stromanbietern

EU Member States (and Google) suddenly want to keep cookie banners!

For years, users and many companies have been complaining about cookie banners.

Even though this under-standable frustration is mostly caused by misleading dark patterns used by the industry, these banners have become the symbol of what is perceived as excessive EU regulation.

As part of the ‘Digital Omnibus’, the European Commission now finally wanted to get rid of cookie banners and replace them with an automated signal.

However, Google and some EU Member States – including Germany and France, for example – are now standing in the way.

In the Council’s latest position paper of 18 June, the plan to abolish the cookie banner has been scrapped.

This baffling outcome is likely to continue to cost European users a great deal of hassle, frustration and billions of clicks per year.
