There are three adults and one child here, all disabled. One adult has type 1 diabetes and autoimmune hemolytic anemia. One has leukemia. One has subluxation syndrome. The kid also has type 1 diabetes. Everybody has some form of mental illness. These all require medication and doctors and specialized diets that drive up our monthly cost of living. Not to mention the general stress of being a queer family in the US.

Anything anyone can do to help is deeply appreciated. If you don’t have anything to spare, sharing this post is a big help as well. Thank you all so much."

In 2023, my partner's wife got leukemia. Specifically, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, meaning it was sudden and extreme. She almost died a few different times, in a few different ways. Almost three years on, she's doing really well!! But there was a lot of shenaniganry around her insurance and us suddenly becoming a single-earner household, and we all took on a lot of debt to try and get through that. I currently have ~$12k in credit card debt that I am trying to pay down & get out from under before the next disaster hits.

Those disasters aren't entirely hypothetical, either! My partner is disabled - he has type 1 diabetes and hemolytic anemia, and has been hospitalized numerous times for blood transfusions. My kid is disabled - type 1 diabetes. I am disabled - patellar subluxation syndrome and hearing loss, and probably something undiagnosed with my joints (undiagnosed because I don't have insurance because I can't work because of whatever is wrong with my joints). My roommate, on top of not being cleared to work due to her cancer treatments, has severe muscle loss and weakness from spending a week sedated in the ICU (one of those times she almost died). My partner and I do everything we can but if you put all four of us together you'd probably get about 75% of an average abled adult. In an average month we can usually pay bills OR buy groceries & meds, not often both. So we resort back to the cards & it becomes an endless cycle. If we can get enough help per month to cover being able to eat & the various medications we all need, then the cards can get chopped down a lot faster.

The amount I need per month varies; I'll try to keep this page updated. You can check how recent it is by the date at the top. February's need is $270.
