The world was a very different place in 2006, and so was the internet. The walled gardens of social media hadn’t yet bulldozed everything else, and we still visited each other’s websites. But virtually all of the documentation of this tour is gone now, or never made it online in the first place.
Getting the opportunity to play a part in that, pushing chipmusic forward, and remembering the visceral electric energy in those spaces fills me with gratitude and always puts a smile on my face.
This tour would prove to be the catalyst for Blip Festival, the first of which we somehow managed to pull off later that same year, and would go on to run for another five years, ultimately expanding to four continents before its conclusion.
It was a delusional, misguided endeavor that was white-knuckled into reality through the generosity of our fans, the hard work of countless friends around the world, sheer willpower and naivete. To this day it remains at the absolute core of one of the most meaningful periods of my life.
This month marks 20 years since the International Chiptune Resistance World Tour kicked off at a converted underground Victorian public toilet in London, and would subsequently take @bit.shifter.net and I through 20 cities in 9 countries over the next 4 weeks. ⚠️ THREAD INCOMING ⚠️
