Currently, there is no federal protection for LGBTQ+ people in disaster relief. When the environmental crisis escalates, equal aid isn't guaranteed. Jo (they/them): "We can't celebrate Queer people, PoC, women, or any marginalized group if our planet is on fire." 🌈
Up to 45% of unhoused youth identify as LGBTQ+. Extreme heat, wildfire smoke, climate disasters, these communities take the hardest hit. Bri (they/them), NCL's NNV Communications Organizer, organizes for them every day: "When the world says you must pick one — I say no." 🌈

LGBTQ+ neighborhoods bear a disproportionate burden of air pollution, the result of discriminatory housing and exclusion. Hannah (they/them): "My queerness has expanded my imagination for liberation." 🌈 The fight for clean air and water is a queer issue. It always has been.
✊ In the 1950s, Black families in Northern Nevada were blocked from buying property in Reno and Sparks. They purchased and built a neighborhood anyway. And by 1977, Grand View Terrace had paved roads, and a water system supporting more than 50 homes.

The outrage points to something larger: Customers don't trust that utility decisions are being made in our best interest. Data centers could consume 64% of our state's electricity by 2046, and NV Energy wants to build three new methane-burning gas plants to power them.
The Daily Demand Charge brought people to the room. What we found was bigger: NV Energy overcharged 100,000+ customers. Repaid $63M. Zero fines. Southwest Gas wants $70M more from ratepayers, on top of hundreds of millions already approved for pipelines. This is a pattern.

📅 Tomorrow at 1:30 P.M., NCL's Kristee Watson asks state regulators to reject three new methane-burning gas plants proposed to power data centers. Data centers could consume 64% of NV Energy's electricity within 20 years. Ratepayers could carry the $5–6 billion price tag.
