Decided to reread these 20th c. dystopian classics to see what they could tell me about today’s authoritarian world. A lot, it turns out. But, as a reader, it’s also interesting to observe the echoes of influence that reverberate among them esp from the one that started it all, Zamayatin’s We.

Reminds of taking this photo 10 yrs ago of a similar, but different, ice cream place in Tampa that is beloved. I got a milkshake there made by a woman with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth. I watched the ash grow longer and longer as she worked, but miraculously it never fell.
What’s the point of NoKings? It’s Americans saying: “We are all out here with all kinds of worries about what this man is trying to do to democracy. We are standing against it! And we are offering this energy to all of you who oppose Trump and we are telling you that we will help you succeed!”
