@bozodeluxe.bsky.social, I ended up taking that wonky detour a few weeks back by chance. Laporte ended up being about 4 miles out of the way from my Google Maps route I decided on. The lake was around the bend from that highway coming down the hill. Great meat sticks at the towns market.

Garfield Lake at Laporte, Minnesota’s public boat launch under a picture perfect sky with cumulus clouds reflecting back on the lake. Freshwater aquatic plants lead out to the lake with a channel for boats in between.

A grocery store specializing in smoked meats in what passes for downtown Laporte, Minnesota. The simple cinderblock facade anchors the towns main intersection.

Some teenagers sit and enjoy a lunch at the Laporte grocery store.

A simple, all white, Sinclair gas station and auto shop, with the old green dinosaur out front, anchors the other corner.

This is very cool. Now they just need to bring back a broader spectrum of Bauhaus’ beers like Stargazer.

But the new Bauhaus set-up will be customizable to a degree I haven't seen anywhere else: Customers can choose the flagship beer on tap, for example, and get it at full-strength alcohol content, two percent strength, or fully nonalcoholic.

Crazy to see the area we paddled through last year is now burning. On one level this a natural process, but on another it's never supposed to be this hot or dry in the BWCA. Hoping the cooler temps and rain the next few days squelches these fires.

The edge of an overcast cloud is lit up by the sun near the golden hour. Blue skies take up the remainder of the image above the horizon line, cutting across the sky at a nearly 45 degree angle. A stump, from before the Eagle River was dammed between its namesake town and Three Lakes, is surrounded by lily pads and lake grasses. The Northwoods shore and its evergreens sit in near darkness at the horizon.

New Three Lakes, Wisconsin billboard went up in June. Funny enough, my wife tried and tried to stay upright on her water skis. The after pictures were mostly of her falling in. But all that matters is that it looks good. Anyways, she's a pro at knee boarding. Me? I could never.

Not sure if it's our floral love seat or the blue velvet Art Noveau matching couch and chair. Think the love seat has to be a bit older. Got both for a song off FB marketplace. But now that I think about it, our cane seat dinning room chairs are also probably even older.

Kopp’s and Oscar’s are very similar. More like one of a kind Culver’s but better. Flavor of the day is king. Leon’s is a very old school drive in, though it’s walk up friendly. Classic flavors in a cone. Vanilla, Chocolate and maybe a raspberry or butter pecan flavor of the day.

Leon’s on South 27th in Milwaukee at midnight under the neon and fluorescent lights.

I really would've guessed that southern Illinois would've had some Waffle Houses outside of the St Louis metro.

A map of Waffle House locations mainly in the St. Louis and Indianapolis metros. Also along the freeway from Dayton to Toledo, Ohio. Illinois and points north have no locations outside of the St Louis suburbs.

I have a Raleigh Haskell, wife’s got a Linus and daughter got one of the defunct Papillionaire bikes. Got the latter two off Marketplace for a song. All have internal gear hubs, though mines a 5 speed.

A storm approaches from the northwest on Dog Lake along the Three Lakes-Eagle River Chain of Lakes in Northwoods Wisconsin. A blackish-blue Dog Lake is darkened by black, blue and golden hued dimpled clouds. Golden and yellow hues sit at the horizon reflecting onto Deer and Big Stone Lakes.
