I’m happy with myself. Even if today’s was relatively easy. Seriously, most of my life I have really struggled with word games.
In my old fraternity house there is a plaque honoring the brothers that died in WWI. 2/3 were very young men who died in the fall of 1918. A history nerd in my college’s fb group said their cause of death was listed as “pneumonia.” I assume that means flu. 2 of these 3 war deaths were really flu.
Things are hard right now. But winter is beautiful and sometimes I can bird from my couch. Enjoy a pileated woodpecker.
For the first 25 years of my life it was the Connecticut. But for the last 25 it has been the Winooski. I feel very close to the flood prone tributary, The Great Brook, I have lived along for the last 18 years.
2025 lemon pig and 2026 lemon pig. This year I am just much more tired has the pig looks rougher. But it will see us through the year. This year the lemon is purpose bought and the cloves are from a tea blend called Night Market from my tea advent calendar.
I woke up about an hour early today (and I needed to sleep as much since my sleep has been off for a few days), in pain and squished. The 85 pound dog was lying HORIZONTALLY across the middle of the bed. When I can’t position my hips like I need to they hurt enough to prevent sleep. Sigh.
I absolutely love my new tunic from Verallis want to dress like this everyday. Very gender. The leggings are Dark Cottage, but you can’t really see them. This is the masc cut because it was on sale and they were out of the curvy cut in my size.
I take that slur very seriously and have been speaking out against it for decades. It’s a serious degradation of public discourse that the president used it. It’s so far from the most offensive thing in this post that I’m not sure it makes the top 5. With fixed alt text
The fact that my state health department posts stuff like this really matters right now. This is an official Vermont state government account.
Oh wow, new annoying thing. I Commented on a random post and a bot generated a dm to me telling me to follow the person on the fediverse. That’s so obnoxious.
In my town we also have an annual parade that pretty much everyone who can participates in. Flaming torches, a band. This year the person who waves the big black flag was wearing a papier-mâché frog head. No permits, no road closures. It’s our town and we just treat it as such. It’s beautiful.
Due to chronic illness I wasn’t able to make it out to a rally today, so I dressed up my finch from the Finch productivity / mental health app to make myself feel better.
I probably should have learned to use a chainsaw before this inevitability.
Today I finally earned my New England Day Trip merit badge. Driving up mountains in an EV is just so much fun! I didn’t even use my brakes coming down. I do with it was a little clearer, but I’ve been up here twice before on the cog railway and it was clear those days.
The dawn chorus is amazing this morning! This isn’t even the peak. I really need to go to bed sooner.
My dog isn’t particularly bothered by either unless they go on a long time (it’s wind she hates). But she realizes she lost her chance at a walk and is pouting. As am I.
Look. We all get a one day pass on posting doom. (On our own posts, not other people’s who aren’t posting doom.) It doesn’t mean we are giving up or that we aren’t fighting if we just take a minute with our grief. Sometimes you just need to get it out in order to keep going. But here, have some moss
Beth and I. My mother took her to all her many appointments during the week and we gave her all the love we could on the weekends. She had a cat named Pouncer. I bought her that Are You Doing All You Can? t-shirt as a dig at the dehumanizing workers at the increasingly crappy group home.
