A forbidden donut near Appleton, WI at the moment. Close enough to the radar site to see hydrometeors (rain/hail) and debris forced to the outer edge of a fairly wide tornadic circulation.
SPC has issued a 10% area for tornado risk (at intensity level 1 no less), which is a first for that part of the forecast area. This is NOT your typical summer severe thunderstorm risk for areas with a lot of people sleeping and playing outdoors.
At first blush storms moving across the Northeast Kingdom seem like no big deal, but there is significant beam blockage due to the Green Mtns. From Sainte-Francoise it’s a different story. That sure looks like a debris signature from a tornado.
Timely, as we head into a period over the next week with potential sunny day flooding in Portland.
This is the view at 2600 feet, south of the White Mtns right now, middle of the day on May 30. Snow has been mixing in at the lowest elevations over the last hour. Less than two weeks ago many of these places were in the low to mid 90s.
While the NAM is likely hallucinating a lot of that snow, this forecast sounding for Portland does support snow. It's the right time of day, it's cold enough, as long as it comes down hard enough it wouldn't have time to melt. It also isn't the only model showing this, the GFS looks much the same.
I get that he's from North Dakota, but he's a cabinet secretary now. He literally could've picked almost any other state and been more correct about the wind not blowing.
Some remarkably steep lapse rates forecast along and ahead of the cold front in western Maine tomorrow afternoon. For a snow sounding, this could be short duration, but intense. Like 1 to 2 inches in less than an hour intense.
Clear skies showed our little ocean effect event from yesterday thanks to a temp difference of around 15C from the sea surface to 850 mb and southerly winds. Greenish color is snow on the ground. Last night Brunswick ended up 10 degrees colder than Portland thanks to the snow cover.
As an enjoyer of Chuck, 2/3 of this casting really went in some direction.
Not to steal the @adamserwer bit, but all I could think with the Disney reform is at least Acolyte did not get a second season.
At least my day is not "issuing a tornado warning for the entire forecast area" bad.
Some impressive winds from this blizzard so far, but even well inland from the ocean Providence is putting up a top 5 wind gust (even including bad data > 82 kt) for it's period of record.
