The percentage of GDP spend on welfare has barely changed for the last 30 years. It is not going to double and the biggest slice of that welfare bill remains pensions not disability payments. You need to stop reading Facebook and the comments on the Daily Mail website.

#fungifriends After a literal and figurative dry spell for fungi, the recent rain has certainly encouraged a bit more growth. These Orange Grisettes were a very welcome sight on this morning's dog walk. Got about 8 or 9 good specimens to help refill the dried mushroom jar.

A bright orange mushroom, bursting out of what looks like an egg and I suppose in mushrooms that's exactly what it is.

#fungifriends Two beechwood sickeners. When you want a mushroom that does exactly what its name says, no more, no less, look no further. Guaranteed to make you vomit but not kill you. However, can't say I've experienced a huge number of situations where that is needed.

Two sickeners, growing out of the forest floor. They are white mushrooms with a pinky red cap. And yes, the name is accurate. It causes vomiting, but on the plus side nothing worse. So, actually good if you have eaten something much more dangerous.

It's been a rather disappointing year for foraging mushrooms in my area, so far, so you can imagine my joy at finding a rather large Dryad's Saddle, a mushroom whose cucumber-like flavour I positively hate.

Pretty clear last night's knife attack involved a man exclusively targeting Muslims. No doubt driven by the racist language now common in the UK, and repeated by certain politicians. There's a statement from MEND Scotland. Apparently Police Scotland are going to put out more details later today.
