This white chihuahua mix holding a small pink ball has already earned one treat. Without prompting, she added delivering it on the wooden bench. That’s 3 treats! Bench-treat. Retrieve-treat. Retrieve ON bench, definitely treat.

Another treat-worthy tactic is Voguing.

That’s where a dog climbs on a thing to get treat then sits and poses so I’ll go in for a closeup.

It worked.

The clouds really showed up for us today at Dairy Ridge. Absolutely perfect petsitting weather. 75° and a solid northern breeze.

What is a Morkie? A morkie is a ridonkulously adorable mix of a Yorkshire terrier and a Maltese. Trixie, 8yo boarding client, is about 6 pounds and prefers to spend her time stuffed into a cozy jacket. Squatter Cat Zack 🐈‍⬛ says: Underestimate this ferocious furball at your own peril. 😅 #ohmydog

Trixie doesn’t just sleep on our bed. She sleeps on my head, sharing some of the pillow with me. Around here we all know better than to argue with Trixie’s “rider list.”

Ten years in and this is the job that supports my family. Almost 60 years in and this is the life I pictured as a 10 year-old surrounded by animals on a farm out in the back hills of the bluegrass state. I am blessed and so very fortunate to be able to live this life—now back in my home state of Wisconsin, which is reclaiming its own blueness.

Wake up hearing Crosby, Stills & Nash harmonizing “Love The One You’re With” as you did as a kid and feel the reward of loving the life you have fought to build for yourself instead of lamenting the one you’ve already had the chance to live fully in a slightly more forgiving human body. 😉
