The Vegetarian - Han Kang A women’s decent into madness from the point of view of those around her. Yeong-hye is cast aside, abused and taken advantage of by men throughout her life. Then comes delusional dreams and attempts at taking back control by no longer being human at all. Sad and dark.
This weekend we went to see the Odyssey, but more importantly, I got this dosa.
Big Swiss - Jen Beagin A therapist in a small town hires someone to transcribe his clients sessions. The transcriber recognises various clients from their voices, including one who she is transfixed by. They inevitably meet and starts an affair. I wanted it to be weirder and deeper than it was.

Endling - Maria Reva There is so much going on in this book. Reva writes about men’s emotional detachment, through war and love, and life. It is strange and satirical, with metafiction elements that jolt you back into the realities of Russian invading Ukraine. A good and weird read.
How lucky I am to have access to a lake to swim. I am absolutely obsessed with swimming.
The water yesterday was v choppy. The whole time I was in I was thinking how much I hated it. Swallowing water, it smashing into my ears. Then I get out and can’t wait to do it again?
Outbreak done. I absolutely love hardcore. One singer talked about his experience of pregnancy loss, one read a piece in support of The Filton 24, lots of pro-Palestine chants, lots of love your friends, looks after each other, just all excellent people.
The Seep - Chana Porter Excellent premise, pretty good set up, terrible execution. I hate to give bad reviews of books, but truly sad that an interesting idea fell so flat. I found myself very uninterested towards the middle, it felt like a dice was being rolled to decide what happened next.
Had a v good and v hot first day of Outbreak. You can see the word “vegan kebab” reflected in my sunglasses, which is why I’m smiling so big.
Did my first proper open water swim today, 500m without stopping around a set course. Next week I’m going to try and do it twice 🏊♀️🏊♀️🏊♀️🏊♀️
