The Oldhammer Fiction Podcast
@oldhammerpodcast
A podcast of readings and analysis of the Warhammer fiction of 1989-95
What a silly movie. Christopher Nolan likes it when you are practical and explain where batman orders his cowls from so he didnt enjoy his monsters. Also he clearly listened to a podcast on the Bronze Age collapse and had a character say "our age of bronze is collapsing"
I am not really a guy for 4th/5th edition warhammer aesthetics but i am absolurely ride or die for the @redbardgames.bsky.social undead and the way they take contrast paint. Here comes my wip mordheim undead girl-gang.
Hybrid ogryn and hybrid halflings (although im using them as squats) from a company called....Hybrid Miniatures.
They were playable in Blood Bowl.... Seriously though i think its a function of the satire. In many ways the empire in wfrp satiries the UK, but it works a bit better somehow by having it be "somewhere else"
The "lots of little bits" option won out acroas blue sky and instagram, so im getting to see all the insanely good 1st edition adeptus titanicus art no one sees anymore.
But this was a common model from slightly earlier , that turned up in the game dungeonquest and other places, and he is nipples out.
I think Marauder Miniatures slayers therefore made them canonically naked about 199p (in some cases totally naked )
The red hair appears in the dwarf lords of legend model from a mid 80s 8 model boxed set. You will notice that he wears chainmail, as so a lot of slayera in wfrp.
I do know the answer to this. This guy is the proto dwarf beserker fron which all slayers descend, from 2nd edition's "magnificent sven" scenario
The real ones seem to have been piercing weapons...rotrying to focus pressure into a very small area. The big problem with them is that they are shit for defence. Its easy to turn a parry with a sword or spear into an attack. Less so a weapon that needs momentum.
By the time you get to the war of the roses and full plate people are all about double handed weapons with hooks on them. Trip your opponent and then drive a spike into the gaps in the armour. Or maybe even just sever an achilles.
What a shitty Realm of Chaos 40k warband. Just rolled the same follower type again and again. Also they all secretly think they're the champion
Tbf, some of th Star Child art does make them look like 1980s Young Conservatives. "Hi, my name's Tarquin, but everyone calls me Squiffy, and, uh aaaactually, the emperor's my dad, so why don't you let me off this parking fine?
I mean, crucially, im fairly certain someone comissioned all of these works of art and would have put down some sort of down payment....
The hobbit habs are kroymek buildings. Which were always the wrong scale for 25-28mm models but worked great for rogue trader era ratlings.
Im upgrading my Terror of the Broodmaster scenario. Starting with these ruined hobbit-habs. Now the ratlings can bave their homes realistically destroyed by genestealer heavy weapons fire.
Reading the Guardian Blind Date today I discover Bluesky doesnt have an "All Bald Men Are Foucault" account and we could really use one right now. Eddie was less into Foucault than he was into her.
Im thinking about introducing "oldhammer essays" to my channel. Explorations of ideas around warhammer that arent directly related to the books I read. Here's the opener to one I've been thinking about on warhammer and sexuality. Would this be the type of thing people would want?
Up for a mini west country oldhammer get together next week?
There's so many 1980s warhammer art works that, if the famous images from that period didnt exist, would be really famous.
Guess what project ive now been imagining for the last 3 hours..... A warlord with his retinue, chaos marine detachment....beastmen with bolt pistols...demons..
In a very similar way that the first genestealer army list let you turn your space hulk box into an almost 1000 point army. Not quite a 1000 points though. Got to sell some metal hybrids.
By the time LatD came out, the miniatures line had moved forward slightly, and so the emphasis went all in on chaos marines (which, tbf had also been the focus in the first RoC) book, althought they were still asking you to use fantasy models a fair bit also, but defintely less eclectic.
Cobble together an eclectic collection of fantasy and early release 40k models, like the adventurers line and space pirates into an army. Finally you can use the space eunuch guy, a space ork raider and a jes goodwin ogre and a chaos thug all at once.
In his article on Harlequind @tomasrawlings.bsky.social mwntions the chaos renegade army list, something i am obsessed with. It was clesrly intended as a preview of the 2nd realm of chaos book but never made it into the final version. I thinm because it was intended as a way of helping you to...
