That makes for a grand total of 116 stations visited (remember, some stations double-count between heavy/light rail), and one happy urban planner who has visited every subway station in the United States and is now the proud owner of a new shirt from LA Metro themselves!
(I also went to East LA on the E Line earlier in the day) Debrief to come tomorrow as per usual. For now, I’m flying back to DC! Good night! 😴 ✈️
I also continued my journey to visit every light rail station on the Los Angeles Metro Rail network, a journey I will complete today. As of today, I only need to ride the A Line from Union Station to Pomona, and the E Line from Little Tokyo-Arts District to Atlantic.
It does indeed! I actually checked the Tren Urbano off in March of this year!
As of today, July 17, 2026, there are 1,083 heavy rail/metro/subway stations in the United States of America, And I have been to Every. Last. One. 🚇 🇺🇸 ✅
For my first day in Southern California, I mostly spent my day in Santa Monica, including the famous Pier. I even saw some dolphins at the pier, how spontaneous! 🐬
HELLO LOS ANGELES! Earlier today, I touched down at LAX, and I’ll be spending the next few days exploring the city and seeing what it has to offer, in addition to completing a goal of mine that I have been working towards for a long time. It’s time for another travel thread! 🧵
- And am one tired and relieved urban planner, thankful that they did not get stranded, thanks for reading! /end
So…this last day very nearly went completely off the rails. I spent most of the first half of the day in East Liberty to check out one last neighborhood I haven’t seen yet, followed by taking the PRT 28X to Pittsburgh International Airport to head home, so far, so good.
I also took the legendary Monongahela Incline to the top of Mount Washington to get what might be one of the best skyline views I’ve ever seen in my life. What an introduction to Pittsburgh!
I got to Pittsburgh utilizing a more unorthodox route by taking the Northeast Regional up to Philadelphia, then taking the Pennsylvanian across the state to Pittsburgh, both because the Floridian is chronically super late and to see some breathtaking sights such as the Horseshoe Curve in Altoona.
HELLO PITTSBURGH! I’ll be spending a few days in the Steel City on vacation, and will post some fun things I see and do along the way :) 🧵
