@cerysmatthews.bsky.social We visited the sea organ in Zadar on a warm Autumn evening back in 2022 - it's really quite magical isn't it?
The current spate of wildfires across the country and the tinder-dry state of Dartmoor has made me reflect on some of the incidents I attended. No exaggeration to say that some wildfires were amongst the most physically draining and dangerous jobs I turned out to in the 7 years I was on the run...
Not mentioning any names but SOMEONE just got themselves into a bit of a pickle and had to be rescued... 8 months in and that whole "most intelligent breed" thing has clearly not kicked in as yet... he's genuinely daft as a brush.
It's also not a new account and has an "interesting" history in terms of name changes...
A few black and white ones from down the front towards the end of their set...
Juliettes at Ashburton Arts Centre on Saturday absolutely smashed it, as did their support, the super-funky Dam. Lovely to see so many of their mates turn out to support them and having an absolute ball. A fabulous evening, even if there was a bit of dust in the air at points for us parents...
And here's Ian's actual guitar... (It's in the British Music Experience exhibition in Liverpool - snapped it last February)
Ben Howard at Eden Sessions last night was pretty special. New songs sounding great but also playing stuff from Every Kingdom which I don't think he's played live for years. Magical. Bonus of gigs at Eden is that at night you feel like you're visiting some strange and remote off world colony...
Seriously - I've been on some strange shouts in my time, but can you imagine rocking up, donning breathing apparatus and entering the building only to see one of these appearing out of the billowing smoke and melting before your eyes... <shudders> lifesize-models.co.uk/product-cate...
Back on Dartmoor feeling discombobulated after brief work trip to London yesterday. I remember @notquitelight.bsky.social talking about high-rise developments "stealing the sky" in Manchester. I think there's a very strong sense of that in London at the moment too, particularly around Broadgate.
One of the highlights of the year in our mad little Dartmoor town is happening this Sunday. A full day of fab live music across 5 stages, with our boy's band, the mighty Juliettes kicking proceedings off at 1215 in The Horse - he's also got a solo spot at the church later. Should be a great day.
Although how they transform from that little bundle of fur to this in a matter of what feels like weeks is still a mystery to me...
Can any guitar / bass playing pals on here recommend someone to make up a replacement pickguard for my ancient MIJ P-bass clone? Current one is basically disintegrating! Been looking at TinyTone - anyone used them?
This is the graph for Bellever for the last 8 weeks... a few mm at most. Almost makes up for the lousy winter we had but the moor is already quite dry.
On roadie duties. Soundcheck for So Goes The Nation @ Beerworks in Axminster.
Our lad is on bass duties once again for So Goes The Nation at Beer Works in Axminster on Saturday night. Beer, pizza and live music from a cracking young local band - what's not to love?
I endorse this wholeheartedly. Charlie the Bikemonger always had a nice line in them.
Sold my Surly 1x1 frame the other day and despite not having ridden it since my mountain mishap I'm already missing it tbh... ☹️
Not sure this is entirely allowed but I think I'm going to let it slide...
A copper mine rather than a slate quarry but did you venture up to Cwm Bychan above Beddgelert during your trip to Wales? You can still see the pylons for the Blondin system which was used to take ore buckets down to the railway in the valley below.
Our boy on bass duties for So Goes The Nation at Exeter Phoenix last night supporting From The Jam. Tough crowd to win over but they smashed it. Top night.
A very happy World Bicycle Day to all those who celebrate... Very much looking forward to some more two-wheeled adventures soon...
Only 3 tracks in to first listen and already feeling this record is going to be a significant part of the soundtrack for this summer... Timeless, golden loveliness from @thecoral.bsky.social
