I’m a weather forecaster. In my free time I like to take pictures. Mostly of birds, insects, reptiles and other wildlife here in southeast Arizona.
It sometimes fun to get down low and see what's lurking in the grass. This little insect is called an Antlion.
We had some really interesting weather the other night here in Sierra Vista, Arizona. It's not very often we get a tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service. Turns out it was just strong mid-level rotation. But still a pretty cool storm.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestOfJune26, whatever bird capture you deem your best from the month of June. June is our hottest month here in southeast Arizona, so I didn't get out much. But I did like this pair of Curve-billled Thrashers.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay alt theme is #Birds&Bokeh, bird portraits with a blurry background or foreground. Oh, I've got a lot of these. Think we'll go with this female Vermilion Flycatcher. I like the effect of the agave leaves right behind her. 🪶
When you don't get out for your evening walk in time to catch the sunset, but the view through a long lens from the back porch is probably better anyway. 😎
It’s not quite monsoon yet here in southeast Arizona, but this past week or so has been a nice preview. There have been a couple of good looking cells off in the distance most evenings. This one just north of I-10 near Benson had a NWS Severe Warning (for 60mph wind gusts) for a little bit.
The #BirdOfTheDay theme is #SilentPresence Capturing moments where a bird appears calm, watchful, or contemplative rather than active. I think this Collared Dove guarding a nest on our back porch fits the description.
This is the fun of being a weather forecaster during monsoon season in Arizona. Not even a terribly impressive looking cell produced a 51 knot gust at Pioneer Airfield.
