You've been murdered. Who do you want on the case? #TheStrangeCasesoftheTangPalace aka #UnveilJadewind #Bailu #Wangxingyue
Sage contemplating eternity in miniature Zen garden with Irish-style sand (tiny stones) from the seashore. This was a birthday gift from a Canadian Jungian psychologist friend no longer here. Thou art not forgotten, Nena, dear Dr N.
Not long out of zoom with IJA Japanese Book Club. Facilitator put up a poster of 20 literary writers starting with Lady Shikibu ( #TaleofGenji). I've read work by 6 of them. 14 more to go! Poster from Japanese Foundation Toronto (lol). #Japan #Japaneseliterature #IrelandJapanSociety
Watching #KeytothePhoenixHeart on #Bilibili before it gets geoblocked (went through 3 links before bingo). ML #HouMinghao is otherworldly beautiful, isn't he? Photos can't do justice. FL #AiMi is our darling Tong'er from #TheDouble. We all knew she would be a FL soon & doing terrific work here.
I didn't know this. 🌟Just another reason to love him. ❤️(Reminds me of William Shatner's Captain Kirk dress uniform that showed the Canadian centennial logo, reminding us of where he came from. Born & raised in Montréal for those who don't know.)
Well if you really want gorgeous elven people - instead of heavily-made-up-with-plasticine whites - just look at any Asian drama. (#LiuYuning as the sea god Hai Shen/Poseidon)
That isn't a stretch. They are both blossoming into power. Reflection on her gingko obsession and flower-based incense and his creating a garden just for her? But what's the Mandarin? My app can't translate it.
#BlossomsofPower is delightful. Few gaping plot-holes but mostly fabulous intrigue, brilliant & ruthless FL, adorable ML (he falls first, will she fall harder?), gorgeous costumes & sets. At first I thought might rival #PursuitofJade but not quite. The latter managed to be consistently perfect.
Ginkõ ... a walk in nature by haikuists for poetic inspiration. We walked along the Grand Canal in Dublin, gazed at water lilies, willow tree, a heron ... strimmer and helicopter noise ... ... komorebi is the Japanese word for light dappling through the leaves of a tree. #haiku
Heading to this tomorrow. All-day haiku! What's not to like? (This is turning out to be a very Japanese summer.) #Japan #haiku #Japaneseculture #Japanesepoetry
Recalling a ROM/Royal Ontario Museum exhibit case with items from a Roman woman's boudoir (can't remember the Latin word). Her cosmetic cases, jewellery et al looked familiar. Also a golden hand with this note. "Possibly a votive object for a favourite goddess." Spot the male archaeologist. 😂
Five volumes of the manga I bought in Tokyo - there are 11 altogether, maybe more? - published by Kodansha (my Japanese publishers). It's in Japanese kana so I alternate between breaking my brain & using my Google translate app camera. True to the original but minus Lady Shikibu's poetry.
Yes, I've started on another translation of #TaleofGenji. Missed my favourite bad boy. It's one of those massive exquisite cakes of a book that you nibble on for weeks & even months. Loved Seidensticker's classic, loathed Washburn's rubbish (no respect for the author) read only 1/3rd. This is🌟.
Ohhhhhhhh. There I was, rewatching #TheDouble, & popped over to see if anything new on Viki. Look what's coming soon! #LoveinRedDust Trailer looks fabulous. 😍
Sick for the past 2 days with a virus thanks to the germ bin known as the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit). In my sick bed I discovered how to make stickers on Whatsapp & subsequently inflicted them on all my contacts. After sleeping for Ireland, now back on my feet & into the mill race.
"... the day's first coffee turns you from the dream world and towards the daylight ..." There are books that you devour in a matter of hours or days & there are books that you nibble away on like a French macaroon because they are so deliciously written you can't possibly gulp them down.
And since I've gone through Asian drama withdrawal heading over to Netflix to rewatch #TheDouble before I do anything more. Duke Su! His fan a character in itself. 😍Revenge par excellence! 👏The gorgeous gif is gone so here's a pic. (Are we all agreed new Bluesky gifs are shite? @support.bsky.team)
Gorgeous new mural in the village of Bawnboy, Co. Cavan, just half-hour walk or 5-minute drive from the Centre. My spot outside accommodation hostel overlooking the stupa. Gate into the walled garden where they grow the vegetables you eat. Ancient beech tree deep in the woods.
I'm back! (You can't post these days that you're going away as someone will come & rob your house. A paranoiac is someone who has all the facts.) No wifi at Jampa Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre which is part of the appeal along with Rinpoche, veg meals, woods, lake, walled garden, friends.
Still to come: linen Noren curtains over open wardrobe with shelves (what the Hakata doll stands atop) & I'll paint this matsu pine image over the immersion cupboard door. The right wall needs some framed images. Some Korean & Chinese artwork I've got ...
Japanese dream bedroom shaping up nicely: painting is my copy of a Master, enlarged, acrylic; calligraphy on gold came with Hakata Bushi doll-see below; black bookcase has Japanese & Chinese editions of my books, gifts & their books from Japanese readers; manga, poetry & haiku in Eng & Japanese.
HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE! Sun rising over the Irish Sea, Bray, Co. Wicklow. From my early-rising, sea-dipping pal, Claire. I was still adventuring in the Land of Nod. (Photo credit: CO'D, June 21, 2026)
Just saw the date. HAPPY BLOOMSDAY. June 16, the day #LeopoldBloom wandered around Dublin for 704 pages (my pb edition with smallish print) of exquisitely-written stream of consciousness 'prose' (including scripts, songs, bits & bobs). If daunted, have a listen to RTE's live broadcast on YouTube.🌟
Here's a hissy fit Meta AI threw & then stormed off lol, after I gave out to it via audio (soon it will 'talk' back) for not paying attention to our thread - 'misremembering' as it called it - thus coming to absurd conclusions & giving absurd advice.
Into Dublin for IJA (Ireland Japan Society) Book Club.We usually zoom but once a year meet irl. Eclectic bunch - Irish, Japanese, Chinese, Italian & Spanish (modern Ireland 🥰). Not usual assigned book but each to talk about fave. Me: #TaleofGenji (Lady Shikibu) & #TheStrangeLibrary (H. Murakami)
