the game already feels and plays more like physical solitaire, and getting to fudge things because noones around to police you reinforces that sensation
picked up World Upon the Wind after being delighted by the demo this morning. follows basic "roguelite deckbuilding" mechanics but seems to be less about broken builds and more about balance and harmony. store.steampowered.com/app/3640430/...
just off the top of my head. that last one is a really cool magic-like by @eriksvedang.com
spent the afternoon yesterday playing through MYST, and wrote down some thoughts catnipped.bearblog.dev/thoughts-on-...
had a technical artist friend look go through his debugging ways with me, a lot of it was just outputting any single value in the shader directly as a color, just like you both say. we eventually found my problem was the normal texture loaded in gamma corrected. thank god for TAs
i’m on day 2 of fixing this normal mapped 2d sprite shader. i think today i’m gonna have to build some kind debugging system to get values out of it
yepp. spawned into outpost as rook yesterday like this. only way out was tripping the laser going out the window into a heat cascade
you’d think paper mario is menus like other JRPGs, but it’s actually parkour!
here’s the playlist on every other streaming service www.tunemymusic.com/share/2sbrOW...
💿 Kettel - Inmate Shuffle genre: electronic one of two great releases from Kettel this year. one of those electronic artists that have a unique sound that keeps evolving and keeps sounding fresh, even 20 years on. analogicalforce.bandcamp.com/album/af062-...
💿 Lucy Gooch - Desert Window genre: ambient, dream pop i loved gooch's single "rushing" back in 2020, and this is her first full length. it's a little more grounded and less electronic, but my, what a record. lucygooch.bandcamp.com/album/desert...
i’m curious how newer Paradox titles like EUV apparently do not use AI gen tools as that is one of their work application fields (at least for designers this past year)
Here are the current top ten games on Steam that use AI-generated assets. Mostly stuff you expect but I was initially surprised to see Stellaris on there a while back, and now Anno 117, which I will sadly have to skip.
💿 John Glacier - Like A Ribbon genre: hiphop, beats i'm not big on hip hop, but every now and then something sticks. i loved her first LP "SHILOH". this one is denser (i think a compilation of several EPs, but they flow well!), kind of pondering vibe to it johnglacier.bandcamp.com/album/like-a...
💿 The Pretty Littles - FORCE genre: punk, indie, rock i'm quite new to this scene but i've been picking up more punk and emo bands past couple of years. and this is one that got my blood flowing this year theprettylittles.bandcamp.com/album/force
💿 Whatever The Weather II genre: electronic ambient experimental glitch this one not been getting enough spins from me yet, but i thoroughly enjoy it each time. another great release from Loraine James/Whatever The Weather whateva.bandcamp.com/album/whatev...
💿 Gregor - Songs for springs & nails, piano, electric bass, abandoned guitar and voices Vol. I genre: ambient pop there were several releases by gregor this year, but this one stuck with me. it's so sparse and laid back 6regor.bandcamp.com/album/songs-...
💿 ben seretan - astral projecting into flavortown genre: "rock drone indie italian rock & roll Climax" benseretan.bandcamp.com/album/astral...
no worries! it’s straight on the steam page as they are forced to disclose it there. same ”it fits our creative vision” excuse that embark uses.
great thread! so many things to check out. i saw Priest (2011) recently for the first time and it’s not a great film but it’s mixing a lot of interesting aesthetics. i completely overlooked it when it came out.
i’ve noticed apple uses a lot of ”whiter than white” to contrast elements in their new UI
one aspect i really like about your spritework for this game is that due to the monochrome-ness of each individual sprite, things come across as separate, tangible physical objects. they remind me of tabletop minis cast in various colors, like neclos fortress
popped into my junk mail folder and found this gem. gonna get all my desires!
ironically, the one game i spent the most time with here is caves of qud, and 99% of that playtime was last year 😅
