Other Days
@otherdays
Spanish band based in Belgium, Spain, Canada and USA. For non-musical stuff you can follow 1/4 of the band at @otrosdias.bsky.social
1/4 of Otherdays bought two cool pedals in Gijón at Al's music factory. The Asturklon is a Klon copy made by Antonio Martos of Al's own original Klon bought in the 90s before all the hype. But with a switch to choose between silicon and germanium diodes.
I found these CDs in a charity shop in Mechelen a few weeks ago. They introduced me to the work of Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, who plays the Santoor in an Indian style. Sounds like a mix between Indian classical music, Laaraji and Harold Budd. Highly recommended!
Air quality in the new M Hall of Bozar was excellent. Co2 ppm did not go above 650 for the whole show.
Had tickets for the Wolfgang Muthspiel trio, but he was prevented from flying to Brussels by a snowstorm in Vienna. So his trio companions Scott Colley and Brian Blade stepped up and played a great mostly improvised duo concert!
Beautiful concert at the Centrale in Ghent by Hartwin trio and Dobranotch duo. And good ventilation!
Wonderful sound installations in LaVallée as part of the Semaine du Son.Oor.
Recording bass harmonica overdubs with my old Homer, recently rebuilt and tuned by the great Cathal Johnson.
The iMAL is a little known jewel of the Brussels art scene, it specialises in digital arts and holds regular exhibitions that (in my experience) are always with it. Plus it features good ventilation!
3/4ths of the band (plus other friends) had the pleasure of having a guided tour by Felix Luque Sánchez if his "The automatic society" exhibition at iMAL
Fantastic concert at the Jazzstation (St Josse Ten-Noode, Brussels) by FUR trio. So many ideas, so beautifully executed. And ventilation was great, with low CO2 levels throughout.
Two great pedals by Comodoro (A Coruña) bought in Vigo (Rockbox). The Bass Rat is great for guitar as well, going from chimey overdrive to fuzz. Sabon, named about a local beach in an industrial suburb, can do amp-style tremolo and spring reverb, but also incredible shoegazey shimmery reverbs.
Beautiful concert by Jawhar yesterday in the Pavillion Horta-Lambeaux as part of the Fête de la musique in Brussels.
Beautiful sound installation by Lotte Nijsten and Gilli's Van Der Wee at Lavallee (Brussels) as part of La semaine du son..
Over the last month, 2/4 of the band have followed Brian Eno’s online songwriting course at the School of Song. Eno was very enthusiastic, going off on innumerable tangents and giving many hints and creative ideas. I really enjoyed the assignments, which were really challenging, but ultimately...
Here it is, it does add more detail, while remaining ultimately elusive, but very interesting nonetheless.
