I remember the dirt, but I can also very easily see the dirt in my black/aluminium PC parts... Haven't yet cleaned this beige numpad I've had since March and it still looks pretty, and brings me joy every time I use it :--)
Here's the setup I'm trying to make work to get back to PC gaming, IMGA award for scale. I forgot the display is broken, so that's something I have to buy. I don't really have space for the PC other than on the table. A horizontal PC case might solve the space issue, or some magical display mount...
Did the GTX 1080 too, like pro! So glad I got to this before the thermal paste prices go up.
Changing the 10-year-old thermal paste of my good old gaming beast instead, like an adult 💪
Progress on the random generated levels (now spawns multiplier zones and holes, too). Also made the slippery blocks look nicer. I know the ice blocks kind of look like the bombs should shatter them now, but I'll let that ...slide.
Spent hours this week making levels for the game and none felt better than the default square shape, so I started working on simple, random generated levels instead. It can only add pegs and ice blocks at the moment but it feels fun so I think I'll go with this approach. #ScreenshotSaturday #SoloDev
Yesss, got Android SDK set up on my blursed sawed-off Steam Deck running Win 11.
I don't have Android SDK set up yet so here's how the game runs on my old cheap Nokia tablet using the HTML5 version ... #ScreenshotSaturday
Trying to focus on the nice parts of having to switch phones: I can now use Godot anywhere :---) I went with a Pixel 10a and GrapheneOS. Except for one authentication app (Danske ID), everything works so far, including banking (Danske Bank) and NFC payments (MobilePay).
Currently browsing: www.doro.com/globalassets... (It's got 4G and a battery!)
Got to figure out a replacement for the 13 Mini sooner rather than later it seems. I don't mind spending some money on things I enjoy, but a new phone? Maybe it time to go dumb phone again. This looks kind of nice (but is sold out and pricey): www.punkt.ch/products/mp0...
Making changes to the game just before you go to sleep, and then opening the project for the first time the next day, is best. Yesterday's me thought it was a good idea to slap the title at your face.
Got this in the mail yesterday. I can afford it, and I've been looking to upgrade my 10yo gaming PC. I already once decided not to buy a new PC as the prices didn't make sense, but here I am, still considering this.. If you've got links to good, similar builds (small, quiet, runs SteamOS), do share.
#ScreenshotSaturday and some progress with Dice Hands. You can now change the board rotation speed (or make it completely static), and there's new level to play. I'm keeping the levels flat for easier aiming, but maybe there's going to stuff like flippers or slippery surfaces or something. #SoloDev
Here's a slightly modified version, now with clicky keys, too... Not sure yet about the layout of all the stuff, and I think this now feels a bit like some old Bond movie's nuclear bomb, or something that would fit KITT's dashboard... Kind of fun, but quite different than I had in mind originally.
Just experimenting. Something like this would add lots of visual clutter, and a proper GUI might end up looking nicer. Still the LEDs and the 7-segment displays fit the retro theme and would make this feel more physical. Maybe worth a couple of iterations to see if I could make them fit the scene...
Feels like a very different game as I finally got to working on the turn-based mode.
This is what I have in the dice game currently. To me, it's understandable, and while combining the controls guide with the ready prompt is perhaps awkward, it still feels nice to have them side-by-side. Other than being a bit clumsy, is there something I should still fix in this?
Still WIP, but made some progress with the ready-up phase. When readying up, the hands also gesture the player number if the button is kept pressed. #ScreenshotSaturday
Unlocked a new way to spend infinite time working on game projects: adding little pixel art animations here and there. Rotating mug next to the Ko-Fi supporter? Totally unneccessary. The finger gun cursor, though, pretty fun?
Low-effort logo :'--) Pretty much just Times New Roman in bold, still it has that Win 3.1 feel to it, I think, which suits this just fine, and the elevator music, too. Like in all of my games, I'm also thanking my Ko-Fi supporters somewhere in the game - in this, it could be in the menu background.
Just how small is itchio? For web games, there's not much traffic compared to the ad-filled web game portals, and for stuff like fonts, you'll get 100x more downloads if you put your assets on sites like dafont. I don't know how it compares to Steam, though, and I'm glad it exists. Here's my year.
I think the game is going to be called 🥁🥁 ... Dice Hands! Since it's got dice and it's got hands, right? At least it's better than Noppapeli, the current working title... Other name ideas I had written down: Bomb or Die, Dice to meet you, Doice, Let's Dice!, Dice-Arit, Dice On!, Paradice, Dice Hard
Today's addition to this project was fixing bugs and adding some royalty free muzak (by AudioHero). One detail I find important is to match your menu beeps and similar sound effects with the chords of the game's background music. It's easy to do and makes the audio easier on the ear.
Still working on this dice game - slowly turning it into something more playable. I'm making this to get back on track with developing smaller games as I also do like to get things finished every once in a while.. You can expect this to be done and released on itchio this summer. #ScreenshotSaturday
Clicking on links, typing generated passcodes, waiting in queue and for your data to transfer, verifying email address, can't remember what else. They will send you a bunch of emails like this, telling you what to do next. Mostly it was just waiting.
Adding things to this, little by little. Lots of new little tweens here and there. I'm considering the bot visuals to just be simple cylinders, at least I wouldn't be overdoing it this time.. I think it also makes sense that actual players are depicted as hands/gloves, and bots are just bare levers.
A tiny bit of progress with the menu. I need distinct visuals for the bot players still, but I like how the menu already applies all the settings in real time. Also, is that Final Fantasy style cursor fitting for this game or what...
