Amy Wright Vollmar
@ozarkpoet
Ozarks nature poet! Waterfalls, kayaks, caves, fossils, shining shells that raccoons leave by the river. I like walking my cat on a leash (!) and scribbling in mudproof notebooks. Author of Follow: Poems and author in Wild Muse: Ozarks Nature Poetry
Harpers Ferry, almost heaven! I am afraid of heights but did walk across the railroad bridge trail, and I was fine. Can you hear the cicadas ringing?
I keep meaning to send you this fine photo of my Aunt Esther with Tommy the Tomcat. Both of them seem to be enjoying themselves. You may have it for your collection! (circa 1955)
Meanwhile, the Reflecting Pool in Battlefield, Missouri is looking great today. Many of the turtles are saying so.
Coco flew to the heights of the kitchen with the power of #Caturday and now wonders if it will get him down again!
I miss all three of these rascals! Bunny, Monkey, and Mr. Chicken. Do you think they ever get petted? Here they are having a meeting to discuss the number of kisses they are getting.
I too have been given a darker background. He came complete with purrs and many surprises.
About ten of them got to come to Rescue One in Springfield, Missouri--that's the wonderful foster-rescue organization where I got my Penny! We wish the beagles well and hope to meet some of them on park paths soon!
On #TerrierTuesday I would like to nominate Penny as a representative of goodness in this world.
Penny says she is engaged in the same war on squirrels and would happily join forces.
Coco says that watching tufted titmice with a cozy friend through a window is the good life. He was dumped into the woods as a kitten, and he is through with being an outdoor cat. Crows terrify him. I bet there's a story behind that, if only he could say anything besides "meow."
Wow, she's a pretty cat! Coco loves to tear around the vet's office and dare anyone to examine him. The vet admires this behavior very much, and says, "What a house panther you have!"
Penny is about to taste the Illinois River for the first time. She believes it will taste like coots and shovelers. And cypress needles.
On #caturday we can nap through the exciting parts if we so choose.
My Senator, Eric Schmitt, is not a good pen pal. He never writes back to me. I keep writing to him anyway, encouraging him to grow a spine. Why would he let Trump think for him? Coco says that puzzles like my Senator will help you scratch your head, if they do nothing else.
At the Edwards Cabin, Wilson's Creek National Battlefield. So many gnats along the creek today that they even got into my poetry.
It’s Reindeer Season! Happy Holidays from Springfield, Missouri, where we can have flannel shirts and opera, though not on the same occasion!
Where a trail leads off into the bright oak ravine we may find the deer
Penny, though she has floppy ears, has decorative plumes to boost her hilarity.
Two pirates had found this picnic table in Hannibal, Missouri before I got there today. I so wish they had hung around a little longer to share a cookie with me. I want to be Amy, Avenger of the Mississippi!
The old bluff's seeps and springs are dry right now, but beauty isn't observing the drought. Stone County, Missouri
You're right!--Letitia James quickly turned into "kitten hit by car." Which I was supposed to donate money to save...Coco says that's sus.
Up Piney Creek, Missouri Ozarks. The air smells like limestone (a wet metallic scent) and pollen. When you plunge into the lake today, it's cold--then you reach a sunwarmed layer as you bubble up toward the air.
