dithering away our last chance 🌎 SocDem, anti-authoritarian left, party of FDR Unregulated capitalism, untaxed wealth are killing democracy. #StandWithUkraine #Taiwan #Tibet vegan animalista ⚠️ animal rights pix
While I’m at it, another WWII drama recommendation: The Counterfeit Traitor. It’s based on a true story (perhaps romanticized &/or cleaned up). I raid the past because honest contemporary spy dramas remain scarce now that film industry corporations mine their profits globally, to put it politely.
Pitt’s a star not for acting but because he represents some kind of masculinity I’d avoided Fury; refused to endure the never-heard-anywhere “South” or “West” (who knows?) accent from Inglourious Basterds Pitt again barks out. Finally I ignored it. The film’s worth it. Intense. Unforgettable ending
Politics can be both organic and inorganic at the same time. My pinned post, which somehow got deleted in the heatwave, was simply a screenshot of the top of my X pinned thread featuring this photo. The only Left that thrives in the US is the tankie Left. Authoritarian, not social democratic. Why?
Given Graham’s strong support for Ukraine it was tempting to go straight to assassination; I just doubt he was effective enough to merit it cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com/2026/06/10/c...
Anyway, as for the DSA link that started this thread: This is one of the organizers behind Platner; another advised Mamdani’s campaign. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/08/u...
There are related essays by others but they mostly miss the point. Chait takes the time to understand the history instead of letting himself get lost in today’s ephemera. It’s disillusioning. Some of the big progressives people are pinning their hopes on are way more radical than voters may know.
“Freedom” was such a selling point in the 20th C. that “Born Free” was chosen as the title of this beloved animal story (a true one) showing tonight at 8 pm on TCM. Even as a child I wondered if it had a political subtext. But the story itself did not. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend #BornFree
The photo’s deceptive. The screen you see is raised & doesn’t cover the vents. I googled that specific issue before setup.
Some photos, if you’re curious (I’m sorry the light’s not great). The white box on top is a thermostat reading 92°.
Not saying it’ll happen to the Dem Party. Radicals bump up against national opposition they don’t see in their bubble. I’m not worried as long as they’re honest to voters but that’s a big “if” for a group whose very name is dishonest. Just think, if we abolish borders we’ll finally have World Peace
Astonishing level of corruption in the Russian military www.lemonde.fr/en/internati...
Why the latter matters It’s very telling that Palestinian Muslims matter to DSA, but Uyghur Muslims do not. #TankieLogic bsky.app/profile/pama...
“Democratic” socialists want to stop arms to Ukraine. Diplomacy alone can stop Russia’s invasion. Russia just wants peace. Peace, after all, is how it became the world’s biggest country. DSA will be “democratic” when it stops parroting dictators. DSA candidates will get my gimlet eye until then.
AOC’s team “declined to comment” but congratulated the winners. She benefits by having a flank that makes her look moderate. OTOH not every question can be brushed aside. We need a press fearless of bullying by both the Right, with its financial clout, & the Left with its trolls of dubious origin.
I haven’t followed the local politics closely, can’t opine on candidates, but DSA organization probably made a difference in outcomes. Most primaries don’t get voters excited but for DSA, which wants power so badly, it’s all excitement, all the time.
It’s interesting to compare the West’s trust in Russians in 2011, just 3 years before Putin’s preliminary Ukraine invasion, with what was going in Russia. Lots, no doubt. For example, here’s what spy Maria Butina was up to in 2011: setting up an elaborate cover story for her infiltration of the GOP
Good morning. Since Trump’s seized the 4 a.m. posting space it’s just not cool anymore. I’ve switched to lark mode. Will miss the angry takes from all the allies America’s burned; will get them later, filtered. I’m on US time now. The eagle flies at sunrise.
Try this nationwide. (And that’s not even her tankie tweets blaming US bullying of Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.)
Are you kidding me? She’s a tankie loon who’ll be an albatross around the neck of the Democratic Party. Here she is blaming everyone but Russia for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We’ll all hear about her other deleted tweets soon enough. It’s good Democratic Socialism is stepping out into the light.
Imagine Left-leaning presidents comparing themselves to Mao, Hitler, Stalin. The totalitarian impulse is so much stronger on the Right now, and the leaders reflect the followers. www.vanityfair.com/story/trump-...
Maybe you don’t know the backstory which is way too long to post here.
I don’t usually do this since @darthputinkgb.bsky.social does it often & well. But sometimes, to further elevate the emotional uplift of, say, watching Ukrainian drones buzzing over Moscow, I like to remember the wisdom of certain circles in 2022. (This guy was schooled online by an actual general.)
The Trump-backed candidate who claims victory in Colombia “has stated that as a child, he enjoyed tying firecrackers to cats and watching them explode.” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abelard... This is not uplifting content; just trying to keep abreast of news from our neighbors to the south
