The patch. Admittedly somewhat obtuse unless one's familiar with the individual ops.
Playing around a bit with SDF text, simplex noise, feedback rendering. Only OldEngl.ttf makes it possible! 😊 #Burnside
For now I've scoped the old behavior to the main loop. I'm wrapping ImGui's Push/Pop calls into C# IDisposables which makes state changes safe one liners. Regarding the tool: it's an as of yet unreleased tool for PC demoscene productions called Burnside. Big demo still todo :D
Sure, in the context of my application it's probably in the interest of the user to have live input values reflected instantly. I realize that there will be many use cases where it's absolutely the other way around.
I also tested timelines animation which worked out pretty well. The UI is a copy of proven patterns including Cables.gl and Premiere. Too late I realized I could loop the demo perfectly with the tune, but fixed it by moving all keyframes forward in dope sheet view.
Anecdote: At one point I had 3 shaders rendering at once. I needed an op that manages transitions, only triggers needed subtrees and forwards transition data. Codex wrote it, wired it up, took screenshots and told me: good to go!
I was also curious how well LLMs can help arrange operators in a patch. The system is designed to be as self-descriptive as possible: LLMs can find all ops, inspect and edit the patch, and take screenshots over time.
The demo tune is a MOD file called 6581-mycopcar by Jazz^Hjb. Since the player is written in C#, the main challenge was getting it to work on the web, desktop and inside the engine. Luckily, the WASM tools allow native references that are handed over to clang during WASMification.
Took Burnside for a test drive and made a tiny birthday demo to see how it's going. I think pretty good! An English anonymized version is available at paralax.at/vibe-demo1/ Random demo tool musings below 👇

Last few days in a nutshell: 1. Integrate @mariozechner.at's Pi coding agent into my demo tool 2. ??? 3. Profit! Maybe.
An early version of my dopesheet + curve editor. Still missing are proper Bézier keyframes, tangent handles, and a fair amount of stability work - but it’s slowly starting to feel like a real animation tool instead of a collection of UI experiments held together by stubbornness.
This one was burning under my fingernails for a while now #burnside
In-development dope sheet editor for Burnside. Still lots of work ahead but I'm reasonably content with where we are right now.
No idea if this is a niche feature or not but I've just added it into Burnside anyhow ;)
Dear ImGui running inside a C# node graph, in the browser. Authored with Burnside, published to WASM via Emscripten + Clang. I'm amazed myself that this works and I just wrote it. paralax.at/imgui/ Image: In-tool node graph
Got a bit carried away and now my node graph got not only C# scripted, hot reloadable operators but also "ghost links"!
Perks of an immediate mode UI - no explicit state management, the widget just builds up from the data we have. Never had this solved so easily with other designs:
I've borrowed the trigger-based execution semantics from Cables.gl - it's such a cool project and my appreciation for it has grown since I've studied their code. My UI still needs a lot more work but then again, most of this new approach has been done in a fit of possession in the last two weeks ;)
That's as good a reason as I can think of for opening a bottle on a Sunday evening🍷🇭🇺
I’ve been wondering how long it would take people to start citing 'They Live'. Cute idea, I'm all for it. badtastegoodcause.com/they-live
Back from Das Ich who gave one of their best concerts in memory. The band had fun as well, so much was clear.
Disney released a Muppet show special that's trying to replicate the tone of the original show from the 70ies and... they actually succeed? No reboot, simply doing more of it while keeping it light hearted and silly. Really hope this test balloon gets encouraging feedback!
Bononi also did the voice acting for the famous 2D animated show La Linea - his grammelot performance gave a lot of joy to lots of children and adults.
Macron should keep the shades in his repertoire. It's nearly impossible to score more Internet points than that:
