NSW's old poisons law never said "paramedic" — it said "ambulance officer," and the authority for scheduled drugs needed sign-off from the Director-General. The 2026 Regulation drops that individual bar but the Observer couldn't find where it clearly defined "paramedic" or "paramedical services"

As a pre-emptive move before any Virtual Care consultation by ACQSHC, I've lodged a paper outlining that #paramedics have long delivered virtual care in many settings & the importance of having standards that recognise the special circumstances of paramedic practice including #interoperability.

The latest NHPO investigation update on delay & procedural safeguards for practitioners who are subject to immediate action was received on 30 June. The investigation has come to preliminary findings, received further information from Ahpra & is now finalising an outcomes report.

The Duckett review into cohealth's Melbourne clinics (released June 2026) recommended scrapping the WIP's staffing restrictions altogether in favour of funding that follows patient need. Government's own reviewers already treat those staffing rules as a limitation, not a standard.

The release of March 2026 data shows psychology maintaining its position as the largest Ahpra Allied Health Practitioner profession at 52550 followed by Physiotherapy at 50064. Paramedicine is the sixth largest at 27809 registered practitioners. The UK has distinctly different characteristics.

There are 2065 overseas #paramedics (4.9% of 42160 practitioners). Many of these are likely to be from Australia or NZ, but offshore recruitment is now virtually at a standstill. The UK has far more Physiotherapists (82235) than Practitioner Psychologists (31775) (cf. Australia 50066)
