Music news, writing and live gig reviews #MDANT I make music as Hazelene / Lines Of Silence / Glisten Trick
We keep selling out at @normanrecords.com and Piccadilly Records it's been a bit nuts! So grateful for everyone who's had something nice to say about Lines Of Silence. All links in the band bio.
Nothing quite prepares you for hearing yourself on 6Music. 🙏 Huge thanks to @gidcoe.bsky.social and the team for the @linesofsilence.com play and the gig shout out on Riley and Coe last night!
From a chalk drawing of "The Ruins of St Botolph's Priory, Colchester" drawn in 1809 and a field recording of daily sound from the building itself, Simon live composed this artifact for @constableambisonic.bsky.social It's a great series, intimate reactions from each guest. We finished with a Q&A.
The series is ongoing, with different artists giving musical reaction; last Saturday was Simon Scott for @constableambisonic.bsky.social here he is explaining the task and his musical reaction
I had a road trip on Saturday to Colchester to immerse myself in the Constable Ambisonic event. It was also the perfect opportunity to catch up with @ollsjam.bsky.social who grew up there, and filled in the day with some history about artists, buildings, and his own experience.
@linesofsilence.com with valiant support by @hawaiiworms.bsky.social next Thursday at The Castle, Manchester. The venue has air con! Did you know our LP is now available at @normanrecords.com and Piccadilly Records? We've been practising our in-between song banter to avoid awkward silences...
I love them. I saw them twive in the 90s, a rare band I've photos for. It's kinda cool being in Leeds now, where they're from!
Summer fruit, some to crisp before the day gets too hot and some to freeze. I made trifle with summer fruit last Christmas and it was the most delightful thing, eating spoonfuls of summer in the dead of winter...
Some photos to set the scene. A typical Majorquian house belonging to an artist friend.
I'm going on tour with Glisten Trick. 🔥🔥🔥 @stoneanthem.bsky.social open at Dash The Henge. Dash The Henge and Puzzle Hall Inn are both free shows. We open for @firefriend.bsky.social in both London and Falmouth.
Tony Jay last night in Leeds! Mostly ambling spare slowcore but then this indie hook blast, alright!
From The Brudenell it's a 20 minute walk to the Fox & Newt, upstairs to see a headline gig with April Magazine. He's playing solo mostly, this set was a great soundtrack to the warm rainy evening.
Sometimes The Brudenell put on a free gig and I was excited to see Bedworm go on last night. There's a Van Houton connection, an MBV tee on display and grungegaze in the mix. A good crowd for this gig!
There was new material on offer for MB3 as well, I think Miki said this one was new. Their shoegaze has strong hooks and is grooovingly danceable, their take is so unique and they have so much fun on stage. That's why I keep coming back. 🤍
Just like the old shoegaze days, I pressed up against the guitar amps for a bit at the @mikiberenyi.bsky.social MB3 Trades Club gig on Friday. Who doesn't want Moose's guitar wash beauty at close range? 🤍😄🔈🎸
First time seeing @bmxbanditsduglas.bsky.social (madness I know) masterclass both of raconteur expertise and songwriting skill. But you knew that right? Special mention for the wonderful support work on guitar and vocals...
I wanted to video everything for Foglights. They even went full shoegaze for one song. They've a Scotland gig booked but I'm certain there's more in the wings.
Quite the weekend... let's start with the debut of Foglights. This is the duo of Eva (The Cords) and Archie (@stoneanthem.bsky.social) they played their debut in Leeds supporting BMX Bandits. Impassioned and drawling melodies, duets and individual pieces. Magic, get yourself to a gig. 💜🥰
A great bill of super buzzy shoegaze bands. Paris In Haze impressed at HPBC some months ago, Junk and Contrail are certainly on the up.
Pints in the sun/shade with SF friends in Laaaandaaan just like old times...
Okay granted I've had a few pints in the sun today so a little excitable but WOW. 😮 @linesofsilence.com furtherdot.com/2026/06/21/s...
@linesofsilence.com on @resonancefm.bsky.social , thanks to Johnny Seven and Pull The Plug! www.mixcloud.com/Resonance/pu...
I'm including the headliner DSM IV for completeness, but to be honest I caught a cab and was in bed by 10:30pm. 💤
Deathtrippers are wonderfully Leeds electro goth, they got the crowd dancing and have a big following (a gig with Balaam & The Angel on the horizon). They've recorded with Mark Gardener at OX4 Sound. I've met the keyboardist at a friend's house party!
First on the bill was Cellar Messiah, who've been going strong even as a new band, and are surely Leeds next shoegaze/psych hopefuls.
Wharf Chambers is 15 minutes from my house. It's a favourite venue: the co-op setup, the vibe, location, layout. There was a good gathering of Leeds folk I've not seen for weeks if not months, and an early curfew gig.
Some friends looked in on me this weekend and said "don't travel Andrea, stay close to home and get rest." They were right, it's been a few weeks of international travel and I'm feeling it...
