I sampled two of their beers, including the Kolsch,in Kenmare itself 4 summers ago. They were certainly drinkable in those pleasant surroundings.

My wife and I treated ourselves at Christmas to a pretty pricey bottle of white wine. Saved for a special occasion, like a drizzly evening in June. What's it like?, I asked. "Interesting" says she. "Oh, as in 'may you live in interesting wines'? I responded, which I thought was pretty good.

I have been tempted by an artisan sausage roll for a mere €6.95. Now that I look at it, in all is squareness, I fear the effort put into the glazed pastry will not be replicated inside.

There was one in Carrick on Shannon. It sold school uniforms and opened two days a week at most in recent years. Seemed to be closed last time I was there, but the plastic was still in place.

Shopfront with the name Kelleher. The display window is empty, but an orange plastic sheet on the window (to protect any displayed goods from sun damage) is still in place.

The one that really haunts me is Robertstown, Co Kildare. The big red house, long since closed, wasn't much better when it was open to visitors. We went on a barge trip for what seemed like 300 yards.
