Listened with my kid today to my dad’s recording of the speeches from the 1963 March on Washington, as I force him to do every MLK day. As good as the speech is, the demands of the March are maybe more instructive for the moment. Concrete demands for legislation - including reinstatement of FEPC.
Coal would like you to know that he’s been there. And it’s going to be okay.
What has always struck me was how relaxed the agents’ faces seem in this picture. They’re not standing to get in front of his head and torso or to try to pull him down. And the woman in front and the blond kid to the left seem almost to be … smiling.
