#skyscape #clouds #eclipsenight Just before the luner eclipse this week the skies at home were full of clouds, with some attractive , wispy ones like this, which were quite magical.
#wildflowers #Meadows #NatureNotes #Naturewriting Just sharing a photograph I took of my little meadow yesterday. The previous night’s rain had really freshened things up. There were lots of bumblebees nectaring on the Knapweed, together with a myriad of tiny moths and a scattering of butterflies.
#RoseWednesday #roses #wildflowers There are so many beautiful roses out at the moment, so I thought I might post this photo of wild roses flowering in one of my local hedgerows.
Self-heal (Prunella vulgaris) is found in many parts of the world where conditions are favourable for it.
This is sad news. I took this photograph of the Major Oak back in 2018, it is amazing to think of all the history this oak has lived through.
Here in the UK Betony is a beautiful wildflower too, as you say it’s found in woodland edges, verges and meadows.
Here’s some wonderful wild poppies to brighten your day. #FloweryFriday #poppies #wildflowers
This pot of bright pink Bistort is all ready to plant out in the garden, it’s a beautiful, tough plant that loves moisture-retentive soil and it will continue to flower for months.
I don’t think my crabapple tree could possibly fit any more flowers into its canopy. It’s just magnificent at the moment. I can’t think of any other words to describe it. The gentle scent in the evening as an added bonus.
Thanks, I just looked those up, that makes sense. Also known as Desert bluebells. In the UK our Bluebells grow in woodland habitats and are a different species completely.
This is part of my orchard, now as the apple trees are coming into bloom. The cherry blossoms are fading and my single pear tree has also flowered its heart out. In a couple of days these trees will look amazing. I feel so lucky.
I’m always happy to find the first wild Wood #Anemone of my year. They’re so strikingly beautiful. #wildflowers #bloomscrolling #natureposts
#flowerfeed #bloomscrolling #narcissii #daffodills The garden is full of daffodils at the moment and some are like this one, old-fashioned doubles.
Happy Mother’s Day. Best wishes to mums everywhere . Here’s a photo of some apple blossom, taken in my orchard last Springtime. It’s a windy, cold and overcast day here in northern England. However , seeing my own family this afternoon will turn it into a great day . #mothersday
A beautiful display of purple crocus naturalised in the walled garden lawn at Wallington Hall in Northumberland, England.
Blue by Joni Mitchell and Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, two very different LPs but much played when I was an undergraduate in 1975.
#trees #treeclub #woodland #Nature #Betulapendula This mature Silver #Birch tree is slowly dying. It’s one of the biggest birches along our little burn (stream) and always feels welcoming and peaceful. In its #senescence the bark is peeling off, insects are boring into its wood. It makes me sad.
Our little’burn’ with over-reaching Willows which are clothed in velvety green mosses and liverworts. Soon its banks will be cloaked in swathes of Dog’s Mercury and Opposite-leaved Golden Saxifrage. #NatureWriting #streams #UK
We had a wispy flurry of snow on our #dogwalk today. Starting from #Blanchland, we followed the road up towards Pennypie House and onto Bulbeck Common, then headed over a frozen moor before descending into #Baybridge and through the meadow trail back towards Blanchland again. So glad we went out.
Enjoyed a chilly, bracing #walk with my two daughters today. We ambled around #Dukesfield Fell with the #dogs, who had a great time sniffing everything and chasing each other up and down the tracks. The conifers sheltered us from the sub-zero wind and the views over #Hexhamshire were brilliant.
Sorry, that was an answer to someone else, oops! I saw a conifer mazegill earlier this week, a coincidence.
What better thing to do for a first post of 2026 then to wish everyone a very happy New Year. I just hope that we can mend what is broken and find peace and contentment as we travel through the next few months.
Searching for fungi/mushrooms the other day, I found this Trametes versicolor - #Turkeytail growing out from some fallen timber. These are very common #fungi but can be quite beautiful too. #UK #NatureNotes #ecology
madebyolof.com/bluesky-wrap... I had a go at looking at my #hashtags over the last year via @olof-loves-ai.bsky.social and was rewarded by this, plus lots of other posting data.
We are blessed to have Curlews nesting in our area each year. Here’s a video I took a while ago near my home, with their unique warbling calls.
Our second day of freezing temperatures and snow in north- east England. The dog is loving it, doing’zoomies’, rolling in the snow-covered grass and snuffling around all the bushes enjoying the scents and smells.
