Climate | Environment | Wildness | 🏴 🌍 Work: Decarbonisation and circularity Life: Making a small patch of North Wales wilder. Often found outdoors. There will also be politics. Because everything comes back to politics.
Nothing connects you more to the drought than living off-grid for water. Remarkably our spring supply continues to flow, but this last heatwave has hit hard. We are now in the tank depletion zone. Hopefully this coming week brings significant rainfall.
Not the first time I’ve said it, but Ben Goldmsith’s association with the rewilding movement is toxic. It doesn’t matter how deep his pockets are, his hard right environmentalism is in conflict with the social justice values rewilding needs to keep as it’s core. Today he posts this:
10 mins away on the bike meanwhile… the result of some winter “improvement” (drainage) works by a nearby farm. This is how climate change is affecting the wet and windy hills of North Wales at 1,000ft.
Despite the intense drought here in North Wales, I’m pleased to see my hands off (no mulch, no water, no cutting back) approach to planting up a birch and alder copse is working ok so far. About 10% loss from what I can see in amongst the “weeds”.
Just a few days far too many people were singing the praises of his colleague for this. Despite his bizarre claim that the left caused the “transformation of a tangible ecological crisis into culture-war”.
No one person is “an authority”. Making change is about bringing together expertise. In an interview on @novaramedia.com he said that when he asked you to help build what the tax could look like you laughed in his face, is that true? If you agree wealth needs to be taxed better that’s a shame.
The only grouse moor in Wales… THE hotspot for bird of prey persecution. This is why I have no time for the “sport” of the shooting industry. They kill anything that may harm their income or their entertainment. It needs to end.
This one is a good example of policy failure. We know what to do but repeatedly fail to do it.
Starmer want to water down the 80% by 2030 target to 50%. 96% of new car sales in Norway in 2025 were EVs. Even on the easy stuff, Labour are so dreadfully lacking in ambition.
The Telegraph, not that long ago. And the Farming unions. Growers do not support veg for single digits The actual quote “Someone is being exploited somewhere, and if you’re paying 7p for vegetables, then something is not right.” He is right. Taking your cues from Telegraph is a bit desperate imo.
Silage cutting in full swing. It’s also a critical time for the success of ground nesting birds. I made a graph of the inverse correlation between the two.
Just watched Our Land in Chester all about @righttoroam.bsky.social. A great cinematic doc worthy of the big screen. Whether you agree, disagree or are undecided about the campaign I urge you to seek it out and get it watched. Nadia Shaikh is so inspiring.
His work was inside the ministry of justice. The post was a photo from inside the MoJ, when he worked there. The training course he was working was sponsored by MoJ. So his work was at the MoJ. As stated.
I dipped my toe into the @righttoroam.bsky.social debate over on the other place. Into the lions den. A mistake. It’s basically wall to wall better than average effect. “I am responsible, but I don’t trust other people to be.” Am elitist exclusionary perspective neatly summed up in this reply:
Such a positive way forward to fix the broken access we have from @walesgreenparty.bsky.social and @greenparty.org.uk Rights of ways are unfit for purpose.
If you really want to feel depressed / want to leave the UK, just take a look at the UK wide data 😭 www.moreincommon.org.uk/latest-insig...
The Greens are not ‘opposing renewables’. "The basic thing is that these shocking schemes are [proposed by] foreign investors looking to make a profit out of our ridiculous energy prices” She clearly has a point on the need for a just transition to renewables. Meanwhile, Labour…
This article - and ones it has triggered (“Never mind the manosphere”) - are deeply disturbing. I’d say it’s rational, not radical, for young women to be angry about sexual violence, misogyny, economic insecurity and climate collapse. We have to fight this attempt to silence women.
How did this not come out more broadly in any of the pre by-election coverage? Media is largely failing us.
This is 2025, 2026 will be even higher for Reform. donation.watch/en/unitedkin...
But he clearly is a monster. We really need to wake the f*ck up to what is happening in the UK.
Hong Kong based crypto billionaire, jailed in the US for financial crime then pardoned by Donald Trump, donates £4m in support of Reform and the biggest liar in parliament… hmm. Neurodivergence does not make you a monster, Ben.
