I've still not found a soild, data-driven use case for gaussian splats, but there's no denying the fidelity of the visualization/reconstruction is vastly superior to photogrammetry. Left: RealityScan, Right: Lichtfeld Studio, both using same video input, with camera alignment done in RealityScan

Getting Dragonfly setup on Linux (runs better than Windows!) on my new laptop with a 5090, and wanted to push it, so here's a vole scanned at 13 microns resolution (70GB dataset)
When you have a deep, penetrative track, it turns out that sediment properties don't really affect the sub-surface morphology very much (for a given foot motion). This is good news for reconstructing #dinosaur foot motions from penetrative tracks: royalsocietypublishing.org/rsif/article...

The new focus stack + pixel shift on the new Nikon Z8 firmware is awesome! Those numbers are mm. 25 focus positions, with 32 pixel shift images at each position, totaling 64GB of RAW images before merge and stack. Nikkor MC 105mm.
Probably gonna need to downsample that 1.5 /billion/ triangle mesh.
