I came across this statue of Medusa in the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (1880). I wasn’t aware that she is represented as having wings attached to her head. She is very much focused on her hair. That is not surprising.
I learned this morning that this has now been published. I hope to have a copy next week!
I think that this is the heart of the issue: disagreement about V’s representation of Aeneas. I think that the passage was excluded precisely because it puts Aeneas in a bad light.
