‘O'Keeffe responded to eroticized readings of these depictions by stating: "When people read erotic symbols into my paintings, they're really talking about their own affairs." For O'Keeffe, a painting such as "Blue Flower, 1918" is an exercise in learning to look beyond expectations.’

Georgia O'Keeffe explained that she turned to flowers as subjects and painted them "big" to capture the attention of "busy New Yorkers." Rather than creating realistic representations of flowers, she focused on magnified details that encourage close observation.

Die Empathie für den Wal Timmy stehe „in einem merkwürdigen Widerspruch zu der mitleidlosen Routine, mit der wir die extremen Qualen von Abermillionen Tieren in der industriellen Fleischproduktion betreiben" können kommentiert Lauer.

Wichtig aber sei, dass die Anteilnahme kein moralisches Alibi bleibt, um die vielen gleichartigen Fälle nur umso besser ignorieren zu können.
Im Idealfall führten die kollektiven Gefühle für den Wal zu der Erkenntnis: Diese Gesellschaft braucht ein grundsätzlich neues Verhältnis zu Tieren.

Eine Liebeserklärung an London, die ich komplett unterschreibe. Aus dem Buch „London Calling“ von @annettedittert.bsky.social, das mir sehr gut gefällt.

Kann man sich in eine Stadt verlieben? So, wie man sich sonst nur in einen Menschen verliebt? Die gleiche todsichere Entschlossenheit spüren, als würde man mit niemand anderem den Rest seines Lebens verbringen wollen? Das mag exzentrisch und exaltiert klingen. Aber es ist mir genauso passiert. Vielleicht lag es an der Stadt. Einer Stadt, der man nachsagt, dass sie eine überdurchschnittliche Anzahl exaltierter Bewohner beherbergt, und das seit vielen Jahrhunderten.

Es geht um London, um wen sonst.

Each reader, of course, encounters their own Ulysses: the one they create for themselves in the act of reading. Every reading of the novel yields a new text, one that has been pulled this way and that by the attention and inattention, the knowledge and ignorance, the likes and dislikes of the particular reader.
And that reader is inevitably an entire person: a person with their own distinctive body, their own feelings, their own vocabulary, their own personal library of sensory memories and associations. These qualities are not unfortunate failures of objectivity: they are what make us capable of reading in the first place.

They will not listen if I raise my voice and point an accusing finger. Instead, they will become angry and hostile, and that will be the end of the dialogue. Real change will only come from within.

Laws and regulations are useful, but sadly easy to flout. So I keep the anger, which of course I feel, as hidden and controlled as possible. I try to reach gently into their hearts.
