It certainly provides an extra level of detail that helps with identifying micros. Here's a through glass (pot) shot of the the smallest micro, at slightly over 3mm long, that I caught last night. Although I'm still left with is this Tischeria dodonaea or a extremely small Tischeria ekebladella?
Celypha rosaceana in the North Hampshire garden last night. Only the second garden record, with the first only 4 days ago. I good subject for my new OM TG-7. This shot was hand held, no flash, with in camera focus stacking. A bit of a game changer for me with micro photography I think! #TeamMoth
Gothic in the Burntisland (Fife) garden last night amongst 309 of 69. Not a moth I'm likely to see in Hampshire with records declining to no more than a couple of moths in any of the last 5 years. I had to wait until late this afternoon for the rain to stop before getting a decent photo! #TeamMoth

Long-eared Bat visiting the North Hampshire garden pond last night to drink (here in slow motion). I often pick up bats very briefly on the trailcam, so it was nice to get a longer clip for once.
One of five Cydia amplana to light in the North Hampshire garden last night, the first after a two year absence and a max garden count. This was the most richly coloured of the set. #TeamMoth
It appears to show at least 3 of the 4 white spots on the side of the middle of the abdomen that are typically seen on White-spotted, does Golden Rod have these? You can see them more clearly from the same aspect on this shot of a White-spotted.

Lobster Moth amongst 664 of 150 last night in the North Hampshire garden. With 80 species of micros, versus 70 macros, the most notable being Parectopa ononidis NFG. Also 6 yet to be identified Phyllonorycter could increase the total anywhere from 6 to zero. #TeamMoth
I run two traps in the garden and the Striped Hawk-moth was in the same trap as last time as were 16 of the 17 Elephant Hawk-moths and an Eyed Hawk-moth, this trap always tending to beat the other for Hawk-moths even though the other trap is closer to nectar food sources likely attracting them.

Six-belted Clearwing (in slow motion) to API lure this morning on North Hampshire downland. Other notable moths were Nemophora metallica and Celypha rivulana. #TeamMoth
One of three Aspila tenebrosana NFG this week (over 4 trapping nights). Also 37 Aspila funebrana over the same period. All seen when using the FUN lure whilst light trapping overnight. Although most moths arrive to the lure in the hour after sunrise once the lights are off. #TeamMoth

Still a few migrants about in yesterday's catch (27/06) in the North Hampshire garden, with this Vestal (the year's first) and the fifth Bordered Straw of the year. Also Langmaid's Yellow Underwing NFG which could be an immigrant or resident. @migrantmothuk.bsky.social #TeamMoth

Mine's a Langmaid's also, and now released. The tricky bit is opening the wing to see the underside of the forewing without removing the scales when you prise the wing open.
Thursday 25/06, with a min of 21℃, produced the highest totals this year with 754 of 162 (77 macro v 85 micro). 7 NFG micros which included Yponomeuta irrorella and Triaxomasia caprimulgella. The later to UV but likely in the garden due to my persistent if unsuccessful use of the HOR lure. #TeamMoth

Lunar Hornet Moth to LUN lure at 9:20 this morning in the North Hampshire garden, the first attempt this year. However no luck yet with the Hornet Moth lure after multiple attempts, which would be NFG. #TeamMoth
