If you've never rescued a dog from the shelter, you should. These 4 were from shelters. Hank is still with us. The others have crossed. They all changed my life. #nationalrescuedogday

Three spoiled pups laying on pillows on the floor. From left: Dobby Jack, who I rescued as an 11 year old with heart worm. We had 5 years with him. Ginger Marie, in an argyle sweater she hated. She was dumped with puppies at 1 year old. We adopted her as she was medically cleared. Had her for 12 years. Coco Noel, the dog we got for Ginger so she would have a buddy. Our wild girl who had been returned twice because she was an escape artist. She was 6 when we adopted her. We had her 5 years before she died in my arms. We miss them all terribly.

Hank McCoy, who came to us at about a year old after losing Dobby Jack and Coco Noel within 3 months of each other. Ginger took a long time to warm to him. He's now the "old man" around here. He's goofy and sweet and always hungry!

It sounds and looks awful... but this is 2 pups who lost their "sissy momma" becoming brothers. Grief manifests in all kinds of ways... but watching them learn to love each other, depend on each other is not something I was prepared for. Hank and Benny are working through it together ❤️

The irises are almost done. The clematis ate just starting to bloom, and the daffodils are gone... but their beauty stays with me. Watching them come back year after year gives me a boost I can't really explain.
