Mother of Birds
The flock is reaching maximum grub after six weeks of being out of their cages all day every day with the kids home for the summer. They’re going to miss the freedom. #cockatiels
Candypop has the coolest feathers. I love her tail feathers with the grey lining and little speckles. #cockatiel
I think if Candypop could tell us her favourite thing about living here, she’d say the foraging. She makes the sweetest trills when she finds a new thing to nibble on or dig up. #cockatiels
Oh hi. We heard you were making pancakes. - everybody but Spritzer, who was already eating the pancakes. #cockatiel
Absolutely not. This is my box of jewelry that I have to reassemble, untangle, repair or reunite because of birds. Including those exact earrings. 😂
Feeling a little guilty. When I had babies I refused to wear teething jewelry. And here I am, buying earrings based on what I think my birds would like to chew on. #cockatiel
We got a new sage and grey rug for our living room. I wonder if Candypop knows she camouflages? #cockatiel
They used to wait on the back of the chairs when I called for dinner. Now Candypop has convinced them to wait on the chandelier. I can’t put any food underneath them. 🙄 #cockatiel
Once I was late with my peanut delivery, and the magpie landed on my window feeder and tapped on my window. They’re insatiable.
Still cuddle buddies on the bedtime perch! Siblings Earl, Spritzer and Ginger. #cockatiels
I found this old video of Honey playing with Pompom (blue) and Coco (green). Honey has one move - chase and beak - but the budgies love showing off their dodging skills. #cockatiels #budgies
An odd number of cockatiels was causing drama, so after a lot of family discussion, we brought home Candypop in May. She’s a smart, sweet and healthy whiteface pearl from another surprise family of five, and is a joyful addition to our flock. (So glad my vet charges by the hour.) #cockatiel
I have an album called “five” for when I get all five #cockatiels together, and “seven” for when I can get the #budgies in the shot. Today I started a new one called “eight!”
I adore every detail of the second set! I am saving up for the first full set now, because Pikmin bloom taught me just how long it would take to get them all through blind boxes.
I’ve come to terms with my birds likely never being great whistlers, but I still appreciate the effort that Earl puts into those five notes from the #pikmin map theme. #cockatiel
Today the #cockatiels were singing Cookie Cookie, and the #budgie Pompom was chanting along, with the same sounds that he uses to call me. Pompom, do you think my name is Cookie!?
Honey’s vet said he was showing signs of stress and plucking. I made some changes to his environment and routine, and it has been a joy to hear him singing every morning for the first time since his surgery. Not all plucking can be “fixed” but it’s important to be aware of as an early health sign.
Nothing tastes as good as sneaking into another bird’s cage and stealing their fancy seeds. #cockatiel
You’d think floors wouldn’t be something a cockatiel would notice, being an air creature and all, but we replaced our floor this week and had three birds crash land when they flew into the room. Honey won’t stop staring at it. #cockatiel
“Are you seeing this shit?” - Ginger, crest at 3/4 alert, eyeing up a crow in the bird bath. #cockatiel
The little angel shown here, Spritzer, has a taste for flour beetles. I don’t even know how he finds them, but that beetle stink will fill the air and the second I make eye contact with him, liftoff, and then I’m chasing him around the room trying to get it out of his beak. SO GROSS #cockatiel
The flock, patiently waiting for me to sit down with them on the chair after I came home from work. I’m becoming a predictable old lady, aren’t I… #cockatiels
